For the past week or so I’ve been awakened by a single beep from the control panel every minute or so. This occurs whether the system is aremed or not. I am able to stop it sometimes by pressing cancel twice. And it does totally stop on its own after a couple of hours. This is not a battery problem. Has anyone else experienced this recently? Any idea of what may cause this? I know of another situation in West Seattle where this occurs at about the same day/time as it does with me.

Why don’t you call the service and/or the manufacturer?

Generally speaking – since no specific alarm panel or part # provided…you said it wasn’t a battery issue, but my commercial bldg experience with several different provider versions of these panels leads me to believe otherwise…Perhaps you had a power surge in your home recently?

Ask.com response…”In general though, alarms will have an audible trouble warning for loss of power and/or low system backup battery. I’d suspect it’s a low battery indication in your case.

A healthy battery will re-charge in a few hours after an extended power failure, but if the battery is old or weak, a long power outage can be the final straw.

Alarm batteries typically last about five years, so if your system is this old or older, that’d be another clue pointing toward battery failure.

If the battery has in fact failed, then replacing it will cure the problem. I hope that helps!”

We had something similar happen – would get sporadic alarms with flashing CPU trouble – seems since we upgraded our internet with Qwest something wasn’t in synch during peak usage time and we needed a filter installed on our alarm line – call your alarm service provider and have them check out your alarm system.

Thanks for the responses. Clarification: I did call the alarm company (ADT) and they had no explanation as the battery in our unit is only one year old, and was installed with our then new system. Very strange that a West Seattle friend is experiencing the exact same problem in a new ADT installation, at about the same dates and times as we are (not every day, but the same days and times).

Do you both use broadband internet from the same provider – could be the peak usage thing….

Answer to jwws. No, Qwest vs. Comcast. And the time is around midnight, not very busy then.

I wouldn’t settle with just one call to ADT. They make a lot of money for the service and if the unit they installed isn’t working properly, they need to send someone out to look at it.

I agree w/maplesyrup – get ADT back out – ADT bought out Broadview who bought out Brinks ……..they need to stand behind their service

our condo had a similar problem after a power outage; as 365Stairs mentioned. It was an alert that the system needed to be reset, not sure if it was related to the battery. We were able to stop it by pushing the reset button; some systems require a software reboot. Sounds as if you are past this point, but thought I’d mention it just in case.

You might also try calling or emailing Jimmie or Keith from Freedom Systems, Inc. They’re an ADT authorized dealer, and Jimmie is an electrician as well. He knows his stuff, and would likely be able to solve it for you in minutes. And they’re West Seattle locals.

They’re a WSB sponsor, and they installed my alarm system and did some follow-up troubleshooting with me when we had some false alarm issues due to a 25-lb cat wrestling a 17-lb cat and triggering the 40-lb-tolerant motion detector.(Punk-a$$ cats)

A family member of mine had exactly the same problem at the same time. An ADT rep she talked to has blamed this problem on the huge radar dome at the Harbor Island shipyard which is undergoing repair. Could be that, I guess. Good news is that the problem hasn’t repeated.
