AnonymousInactiveHi,
I would like to know how does someone obtain donations from area business for our school? We area at Roxhill and we desperately need sound equipment, musical instruments, a piano would be great! Also bookcases for our teachers. I hear another area school received a donation of a baby grand piano for their school so how do we do something like that for our school?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

JanSParticipantwell, first you come here :) and you’ve done that. Hopefully there’s someone out there paying attention. This blog gets a lot of hits by people who never comment. You might post a contact on here for people to send e-mails to.

solsticeMemberI am so glad I found this. I have a flute that is in really good condition along with music books that I was going to give away. I would love to donate it to your elementary school. How can I contact you or find out the details of that?

addParticipantSolstice – If Roxhill does not have an instrumental music program, our school’s music teacher also works at several different schools and I’m sure could really use your donation. Let me know if it doesn’t work out for Roxhill!
Lattemom – if you can think of specific businesses that might be able to supply what you need, calling or stopping by (the personal touch) and asking usually works the best. Many businesses are being approached now (it’s school auction season), but I have found that a direct ask is usually the most fruitful! Good luck and lucky Roxhill to have a dedicated parent like you.

SliderParticipantYour school is lucky to have you! The book cases should be easy and free! The district has a surplus website that the school staff has access to. They can either shop off the website for book cases, or call surplus directly (you must be a district employee to do both). Shopping off the website may take a long time, our PTA ordered book shelves in October and they weren’t delivered until April. I’m told calling directly with your pleas for supplies gets faster action. Good Luck, there should be tons of surplus with all the schools that have been closed.

AnonymousInactiveOur teacher is not comfortable using the Internet, so if you could give me the website address and I can search for her that would be great!!

SliderParticipantUsing the teachers computer click on IE(Internet Explorer) and it should bring up the districts home page. Put “surplus” in the search box. The first result to come up should be the surplus “shopping” web site. It is broken up into catagories and book cases is a catagory. You order just like any other web site. I was told once you place your order you should call them at 252-0550 (They don’t answer “Surplus” they answer something else)and tell them nicely that you ordered something and try to get them to put you to the front of the delivery schedule, this may take more than one phone call, the nice squeaky wheel gets faster service. While you have them on the phone find out if they have any pianos available from closed schools. Our school has more than one really old piano, so I’m sure other closed schools had pianos also. Good luck and happy surplus shopping!

SliderParticipantDo you still need a piano at Roxhill? I have a friend here in WS that is looking for a new home for her unused piano.
