No they don’t.. Germany does. Productive means, the output of goods and services as a percentage of capital invested. Of course they produce jobs. They are the ones that decide where to take that capital and where to invest it. See, the problem is this…. when labor gets too expensive, relative to output. You have essentially two choices. One, you invest in tools and equipment that make the individual worker produce more. Or, you hire cheaper labor. Infrastructure is a good example… when they build those bridges… the same bridge design of 50 years ago requires 1/10th of the labor. The contractor still gets his return, not on labor but on the capital invested in the equipment. In fact, he doesn;t have to provide retirement, pensions, insurance on equipment… and if he leases it for a job which most do… it’s not a capital asset to depreciate, it’s a job specific expense. Now, if you design a piece of equipment that replaces 10 people AND is so automated that low skill laborers can operate it.. all the better. See, Germany sells the textlile equipment to China and buys the manufactured product. A worker who makes 1.00 and hour and produces 1.20 per hour is as productive as a worker who makes 100 per hour and produces 120 in the same hour. Both are equally productive. we dont have a work force that can produce $120 per hour ..for the 100 per hour capital investment.. and that my dear.. is all about education and training. You can bet when the Chairman of GE is deciding where to invest 5 billion… he damn sure is producing jobs. There is one CEO of GE, Once CEO of IBM, one CEO of Apple… and if their company is producing 500 billion in revenue.. and they make 200 million… in compensation… we in fact have the most productive CEO’s in the world. Their cost, relative to the companies financial performance is the envy of the industrialized world. Was Steve Jobs worth 500 million? As a shareholder YES he was.. worth every penny of it.

The more expensive labor gets… the more productivity seeking compnaies look to see if they can be more productive with machinery, computers etc. Right now, someone is designing a recycle or garbage collection system that will put drivers out of work with equipment that will collect more, faster, more efficiently….. it’s the way the world works. Our mutual friend… is in a trade that is dying… his labor costs have architects and building material companies finding substitutes to bricklaying to the extend that there are fewer and fewer masonry constructions .. pre cast panels and pre fabricated curtain walls are making masons obsolete. The money is transferred to capital investment and equipment … not to workers pockets. High paid microbiology technicians use computer diagnostics and chemcial reagents to scan thousands of blood samples… with one or two microbiologists doing the work of 50…. ten years ago. where is the money? Designing that equipment or knowing how to repair it, calibrate it, service it.

    kootch…

US companies who take US tax breaks and turn them into foreign jobs aren’t providing opportunities for the taxpayers who subsidize their profits.

no matter how many rings you talk around that basic fact.. it won’t change.

what subsidy? They are no more tax breaks than the coffee shop on the corner that deducts the rent, coffee cups, utility bills as deductible expenses. Income – less expenses – depreciation = taxable income. You aren’t subsidizing a damn thing. You think the income of others is righfully yours to claim.. and that ain’ta subsidy except in your mind. But keep that bulldog grip on the notion… while the jobs continue to go offshore. Now Solyndra… that WAS a subsidy. The basic facts as stated.. productivity of workers is measured as output relative to inputs.

That is why we have mandatory public education. It was cheaper to use industrial mechanical aids than muscle power. So we warehoused the surplus labor in public schools, and wages rose. The higher labor costs were absorbed by the increased production efficiences. That’s the facts. Now, as wages, and tax burdens increase… the cycle perpertuates itself… business will further increase investments in lower labor costs (fewer employees) with increased productivity, or go where taxes are less expensive. In the case of Cook.. Obamacare can take a bow… they punished or picked the winnners and losers, whichever term you use the result is the same. Cook is going offshore.

Come and get it… oh.. it’s not here. I guess you can’t. Wow… see how that class war fare is heading… unemployment is up to 8.3 per cent and rea; unemplyment is now 15%…. at this exact same time in the RR recovery, we were adding over 355,000 new jobs in July.

    kootch..

when Boeing wants to move their headquarters.. what do they get from the city/state?

    take breaks.. incentives.. subsidies

now you can call them anything you want,

but when US corporations pay no tax or little tax or get a refund.. it is because the American taxpayer is subsidizing their fair share.

    if you subsidize their taxes

they get a subsidy from the American taxpayer

    tapdance away kootch….

Yea.. it was his company that got the biggest chunk of TARP… that’s why he is an Obama man… he’s in the tank for him… can you spell A…I….G..? Here is the essential truth… 41 months of 8% plus unemployment, stagnant growth, and net job loss… those too are essential truths… well JoB that is what states and cities do to attract jobs.. that is not a federal issue that is state and local… yea.. I imagine WA would do a lot to keep Boeing manufacturing here. Capital gets allocated where it gets the best return. Instead of green eye… we should put on our thinking caps… how can we make doing business here in the USA attractive. Starts with a work force.. a trained and educated work force. That’s the numero uno asset. we don’t have it.

BTW.. those multinationals.. that don’t take USA tax break money and run away to China with it… they use their offshore earnings… which are not taxable .. cause no economic activity happened here to incur a tax liability. You keep staring at the horizon for a ship that ain’t coming in. Not unless you make it a welcoming port of call.

But don’t put on that sun block until you’ve exposed yourself at least 20 minutes to Full mid-day sun. On arms, legs, chest, belly, shit like that. One of the Best tips for staying cancer-free is having plenty of Vit D, as measured by your blood serum level.

” 41 months of 8% plus unemployment, stagnant growth, and net job loss.”

wouldn’t you think that would be enough to make the Republicans in congress want to support bipartisan efforts to improve the economy?

    gosh.. i would.

instead they have concentrated on gay marriage and women’s reproductive rights…

because everyone knows fixing those two issues will jump start the American economy.

    epic fail.

yes, you should have your vit D levels checked.

low vitamin D levels contribute to fatigue and depression.

Not really there are 54 pieces of legislation awaiting some action, any action from the Senate. The gay marriage issue is settled.. Defense of Marriage Act… so I don’t see any action on that front… but repealing Obamacare, extending the Bush tax cuts or take a year and do tax reform… and lowering the corporate income tax rate to 10 pct for offshore earnings… tell me JoB why did the Democrats kill Simpson Bowles..??? Instability makes for zero recovery… bsuinesses are telling you what to do…. you prefer to shout over them… and not listem.

    ’cause it sucked?

dude, we listened to businesses for 30 years and it drove our government into the ditch. we’re not doing that anymore. forget the corporate tax breaks. when we take back the house in the fall, you can kiss any notion of those goodbye.

i’m with patty murray: let’s go over that cliff and see what happens. it can’t be any worse than what we have now, and we might finally punch a hole in K street – maybe even crater it.

Kootchman you should ask for the blood 25(OH)D test. Or, also just called the HydroxyVitamin D test. NDs check it, and some conventional docs do too, especially once they have cancer patients. I think everyone should get a baseline test. Just a blood draw, and ask the doc to have the lab do the above test so you and the doc can review the results. If your doc pushes back, you can have a professional blood draw (there’s a place on California near Spokane) and they’ll send it to any lab you choose to have it tested. Results then can be sent either to your home, or to your doctor.

Even conventional medicine is finally coming around to acknowledging the role of vitamin D and sunlight exposure to our health. Job is right, depression and fatigue are symptoms of low D, but also even more important is how immune system dysfunction is directly tied to, and also how our 3 ‘modern life’ cancers in particular are affected, by low serum D. Breast, prostate, and colon cancers, esp.

Check it out, there’s lots of info. Get yours tested, and I will BET you it’s low. ;) Your nordic ancestors were able to use sun’s UV rays on their skin and make vit D, BECAUSE they had pale skin. Otherwise ya’ll would have died off long ago! Seems like almost every modern industrial person’s serum D is low (including newborns) for one thing cuz we are indoors WAY too much.

meg…spot on…we all need to be tested. Being on dialysis with failed kidneys sure did bring this to the forefront with me ( a Breast cancer survivor). I get shots of Vit. D. directly in the dialysis machine..it’s a standard thing. Thanks for the PSA :)

Yea… you can tell a liberal not by what they say… but what they do. I am writing to the VA and the American Legion to once again endorse a Republican candidate. And the left talks about “voter suppression?!!! what utter hypocrisy!!!! Shame shame shame!!! what a blunder…. ! they must be getting scared.

Going to stomp all over states rights again.. every chance he gets … SCOTUS has clearly weighed in on this issue. States can set the voting guidelines as long as the are uniformally applied… I guess in Obamaland.. as CIC he doesn’t trust those he leads to follow!!!!!

In a move that could have an impact on the final result of the presidential election, Barack Obama’s campaign has sued Ohio to block a measure which extends early voting for members of the military.

The action brought quick responses from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and as many as 15 military groups.

DeWine told Fox News on Friday that he found the July 17 action by Obama campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party “quite shocking.”

The tradition for allowing special circumstances for military personnel in voting dates back to the civil war, he said.

All those posts … gosh I should go back and copy them… Dirty Harry and Half Time In America… you do remember that ad?

Well, I guess third quarter in American is different….

“I think the country needs a boost,” Eastwood told The Associated Press as he joined other Romney supporters for the private campaign event. “Now more than ever do we need Gov. Romney. I’m going to be voting for him,” Eastwood told Romney supporters Friday night.

“repealing Obamacare, extending the Bush tax cuts or take a year and do tax reform… and lowering the corporate income tax rate to 10 pct for offshore earnings..”

this is the agenda you think it is right for the House to hold up the business of government for?

tax breaks for the most wealthy?

    and repealing access to healthcare?

And you think this is the mature way to do things?

I am gonna stamp my foot and refuse to play until you do things my way….

oh kootch.. what can i say?

Wahoo! I’m with you. let the SOBs cannibalize their own industries. How much worse can it be than the slow death we have now?

talk about uncertainty… middle class people who have worked hard their entire lives and saved to build for their retirement are wondering what is going to be left of their 401ks after wall street gets done draining them dry. They have already seen what happened to their houses… and their jobs.. and the opportunity they thought they were giving their kids and grandkids…

    enough already!

    kootch..

the lawsuit in Iowa would not prevent the military from voting early in Iowa..

it simply challenges limiting the extra three days the state has given the military to vote IN PERSON prior to the election to the military.

We are not talking about mail in ballots here… we are talking about in person voting for people who are not going to be available to vote on the day of the election.

current law lets all persons vote until the friday before the election.

it allows the military 3 more days..

i can see where this might have some merit in the case of 24 hour deployments..

but the law doesn’t limit those given an extra 3 days to vote to those facing immediate deployment.

Challenging this law does not prevent anyone (even the military) from voting..

voter ID laws do prevent actual US citizens from voting in an election if they do not have a picture ID on their person.

those laws prevent people from voting at all…

which is pretty much the definition of voter suppression
