With the way the summer is progressing and could very well be the foreseeable future I’m thinking of getting a ductless heating/ac system installed. I have a townhouse and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any place local. I have found a couple in Seattle off of the SCL page but figured I’d ask here as well.

Also, anyone have one of these installed (especially in a townhome) and how do you like it?

    Thanks!

In 2012, I had an 18,000 BTU Fujitsu unit installed for 2 rooms in my house (9,000 BTU per room; ductless; remote control for each room unit). Installed by Accurate Heating of White Center. Approx $6,000 (equipment + labor). Works great, no problems of any kind.

The heating will become less effective as the outside temp drops below freezing. This is due to the limits of the technology. But after I set the house gas furnace to 65 degrees, I tweak up my bedroom with the heat pump for sleeping. When the outside temp is in the low 20’s, or below, I might have to use an electric space heater to warm the bedroom above the furnace setting.

For AC in the summer heat (when I have my furnace off), it cools the rooms down into the low 70’s when it’s 90+ outside. This is particularly great for the bedroom where you sleep.

If you have a house duct system with a furnace you can have a whole home heat pump system installed that feeds through your furnace ducts. But you don’t get the room by room custom control of the ductless system.

The ductless outside unit (big heat pump) is very quiet so it shouldn’t bother neighbors. My neighbors can’t tell when it’s running.

Ductless can be pricey, but I’m more than thrilled I did the technology for two rooms in my house.

Not a single performance problem since it was installed.

Thanks! Unfortunately all I have are wall heater units so no duct work in my place. Ductless is my only option.

    I appreciate the feedback!

    Semele,

I have a ductless system too and love it. It is about three years old.

Mine is a Mitsubishi. I purchased a unit that was slightly larger than recommended (BTU)since there is only one inside unit to heat the whole house.

I believe the rebate through Seattle City Light is still available:

**Check to see if you qualify for other energy improvements too.

I used MJA Mechanical to do the install. Great to work with!
