jenParticipantThis story is a couple of weeks late, but deserves to be told.
Two days before Christmas, I spent two hours getting from my job downtown to McLendon’s in White Center. Because of all the nasty weather, and the fact that I couldn’t get my car out of the driveway, it was my one chance to do any shopping for my wonderful dude. I had left work early to make sure I had time to get there before the store was scheduled to close at 8:00. I arrived at 6:00, only to find the store already closed due to the weather. There was one person outside in front, who, when she saw my frustration (and distress), very kindly allowed me to enter the store and shop for 15 minutes to get what I needed. There was one cashier left in the store who – also very graciously – stayed to ring up my purchases. Upon checking out, I asked the cashier for her name, the other lady’s name, and their manager’s name, so that I could contact the manager. The cashier’s name was Beth, and as it turned out, the lady who let me in was the manager, Shelley.
So…huge shoutout to Shelley and Beth. I’ve always been impressed with the service at McLendon’s, as well as the knowledge of the employees, but this latest experience was even a step beyond their usual great performance, and cemented my status as a customer for life.

wingmeMemberCouldn’t agree more. I live 8 blocks up the hill from Home Depot but nearly always travel the extra distance to shop at McLendon’s. LOVE that place!

roundthesoundParticipantI wish I had had the same great service on new years eve. I arrived at the store at 5 minutes to 6pm and as I tried to enter the store I was stopped by an employee who told me that she wasn’t authorized to let me in the store. She told me that they were closing early at 6; I pleaded with her that I had 5 min still before they closed and all I needed to do was run in and grab one item and I already knew exactly where it was. She didn’t budge. That chick ruined my whole evening.
I never used to mind driving the extra distance; I’m coming from Alki and there are 2 Home Depots and a True Value a lot closer. However; I hate Home Depot and they don’t always have everything I need, so I will reluctantly make the trip all the way down to White Center for my hardware needs…and now I call first. By the way they started closing at 7pm now.
