grrParticipantwhy the hell isn’t this place packed every day for lunch?? I pay twice as much on the east side when I’m working for food that’s not as good. Ya’ll need to go here more. I love it.

SueParticipantWe absolutely LOVE Royal India. We live within walking distance of Majaraja, but still drive up to Royal India instead. I am always amazed that more people aren’t there, and always afraid they’ll end up closing as a result.
I was up in the Vancouver, BC area this weekend and my friends told me I didn’t know good indian food until I ate it up there, and gave me a particular restaurant name. I went there for lunch and as I was eating, I thought that it was every bit as good as Royal India.

pigeonmomParticipantgrr, have you been to Mayuri on the Eastside?
January 13, 2010 at 9:40 am #686446
grrParticipantIndeed, Pigeon…Quite tasty, but I don’t like it as much as I like Taj Palace (140th and 520). There’s also a great place out in the EastGate shopping area by the car dealers (can’t think of the name), and a really great vegetarian Indian place by the movie theaters in Crossroads Mall.

pigeonmomParticipantUdupi Palace is near Crossroads and on my list to try, as well as the others you mentioned. :-D

lazybeardParticipantRoyal India has become my wife and I’s stand-by place for indian if we don’t feel like venturing up to Roosevelt to Taste of India (our favorite).

afrikandoParticipantMy girlfriends and I love Royal India, and Sonny and Raj, the co-owners who often serve tables. Actually, I think Raj may be spending his time at another location these days. Anyway, we eat here often and I’m always disappointed to see very few others in the dining room. Royal India’s Chicken Tikka is fabulous; be sure to try their fried okra dish.

afrikandoParticipantoops! double post.

dtownMemberThis place should be PACKED all the time! It’s the place I frequent the most! Excelent food and A+ service!

where is it located?
January 24, 2010 at 9:15 pm #686453
austinMemberThey’re on California just north of Admiral, about across the street from the Admiral theater. 2342 California Ave, SW / http://www.royalindiagrill.net . The map on the website shows Arlington, VA for some reason, but that’s the address. I think there may even be parking in back as well.

AdmiralJanewayParticipantRotten luck. I convinced a friend to have lunch with me at Royal India today. We walked in to find their floor soaked from a busted pipe. Needless to say, they were closed for business today.

HelperMonkeyParticipantI am surprised to see this place getting such rave reviews. the one time I went there I got so sick it put me off Indian food for a long time. Maybe because it’s a buffet, I don’t know. The food tasted good, not great – and it definitely made me and my lunchmate ill.
March 4, 2010 at 12:15 am #686456
KimberleyParticipantI was just there for dinner last night – the food there reminds me of northern Indian food a friend’s mum used to make back home (in the UK). I’ve never ever been sick from their lunch buffet – sorry you had a bad experience HelperMonkey, hopefully you’ll have a better one next time.

ws4everMemberGood food and generous portions when you order off the menu; very good service, open to moving tables together for you if you’re coming in as a crowd and want to all talk together. Friendly to single people who can enjoy their dinner and take home the rest in a container.
March 6, 2010 at 4:17 am #686458
grrParticipantyup. I’ve never had a bad experience there. Just love it.
March 7, 2010 at 6:25 pm #686459
afrikandoParticipantsorry you had a bad experience, monkey. i’ve eaten here dozens of times and never had a bad dish. i’ve never had the buffet though…
and, yes, there is parking in the back and you can walk through the back door adjacent to the kitchen! note that the alley in the back is one way traffic so be careful!
March 8, 2010 at 1:17 am #686460
SueParticipantI had no idea they had parking in back – thanks afrikando! We always end up parking along Safeway and walking over. You mentioned the alley is only only one way – which way does it run?
March 8, 2010 at 6:33 am #686461
JanSParticipantSue…the alley is one way from Admiral going north :)

thansenMemberI’m not an Indian food aficionado but I love to try new foods. Please recommend your favorites!
March 18, 2010 at 6:38 am #686463
afrikandoParticipantmy faves: the chicken tikka (i get sauce on the side, medium spicy), the pan fried bhindi (okra), gobi (roasted cauliflower), and saag paneer (creamed spinach with homemade cheese). we always get plain naan. and the peppery pappadum with assorted chutneys.
March 18, 2010 at 6:41 pm #686464
dtownMemberRoyal Chicken Tikka Masala is A+ !
Keema Naan
