Your dog ran in front of my car this afternoon near Met Market, almost causing someone to rear end me as I stopped quickly to avoid hitting him. I then observed your dog defecating in someone’s front yard (not your yard, since the contractor at the house where your dog pooped indicated that the owners don’t have a dog).

When I contacted the phone number on the ID tag, you identified yourself as the owner and told me to tell Otis to “go home” like all the other neighbors do. When I asked you where “home” is so I could make sure he got there safely, your reply was “nearby” and you hung up. By your response, it is obvious that you let your dog roam around the neighborhood unleashed.

Ever heard of a leash law? Not only can your pet get injured, but his roamings can cause car accidents and endanger the safety of others. Not to mention that he’s pooping in yards other than his own.

Be a responsible pet owner and leash your dog off your property or give your dog to someone that will observe the laws and protect the pet from harm. Your behavior and attitude, IMO, is just plain wrong and indefensible.

otis’s owner can join the owner of the unleashed lab she walked down my street this afternoon.. following at a discreet distance.

i appreciate that she at least followed her dog and i appreciate that she picked up one of the three “gifts” he left on my parking median…

but i would appreciate it more if she leashed him and picked up after all his gifts.

she wouldn’t have to go above and beyond either the particulars or the intent of the law to do so…

    and it’s not hard….

i have two dogs and i manage.

As the owner of a dog names Otis who does make the rounds in West Seattle, I just need to make it known that it was not Otis, the well-behaved boxer and his equally well-behaved owner that did this. There must be another naughtier Otis plus owner out there.

I’m glad Otis the wanderer didn’t get hit, and that you got through this uninjured. I’d be tempted to pick Otis up and have his owner retrieve him from me, and perhaps contact Animal Control. AC can be very good at making sure a negligent owner is on their radar, and will fine and, if necessary, remove pets from negligent owners.

Sure doesn’t sound like this was an owner worried about an escapee, but a habitual offender. Any chance you can post the breed or description of the dog so other Otis owners aren’t all hooked together just by the dog’s name?

Otis & his crap owner can go hang out with my neighbor’s dachshund Frank, who seems to think the whole street is his bathroom…never a leash, never a poop pick up.

I almost hit this dog too! Brownish-black older looking lab?

Take care of your damn dogs, people. I’m sick of hearing it. I’m sick of saying it. I loathe beating a dead horse, but Otis’s owner needs to know how many times their dog almost got killed.

or next time take the colar off and take him the shelter where the owner will have pay to get him out, that is of course he cares enough to find him

chef: if you still remember the phone number, I would advocate for giving it to Animal Control and submitting a formal complaint. Sometimes a visit by someone in a uniform and a monetary fine will wake people up. I always make sure I carry my cell phone with me when I go for walks – I’ve had to call animal control regarding loose dogs a couple of times.

chef, I concur with The Velvet Bulldog. Animal Control needs to know about this so they can follow up. You can fill out an on-line form here

http://www.seattle.gov/animalshelter/ServiceRequest/ServiceRequest.asp giving them all the info including the phone number of Otis’ owner.

Please do it for Otis. Even though his owner might currently seem unconcerned about his welfare, maybe a contact by Animal Control will result in helping make Otis’ owner more responsible. From the sounds of things, if Otis is allowed to continue to run loose, he could end up being hit by a car.

    Chef–

If you have Otis’ #, could you let me know. Heavy traffic, rainy weather, and this dog’s crossing the street behind the Met and the library, dodging traffic @ 6:00 p.m., upsetting me and the kids.
