Tried using a nettie pot with saline solution?

My hubby also has been drinking an herbal tea from Traditional Medicinals – Breathe Easy which helps clear the sinus.

Netti. It will most likely change your life.

    I really feel your pain.

Go for the Netti – it is great; this year the doc brought out the heavy arsenal for me: fluticasone propionate – cortisone spray in the nasal cavity. I’m told it might take a couple of weeks to kick in. I’m still waiting…meanwhile, ibuprofen and Netti definitely help.

Trensuela – Just snuggle up with a nice bottle of Jack Daniels, wool blanket, and rockin’ chair. Throw a couple logs in the stove, and sweat it out for a couple hours.

    You’ll be glad you did!

The Jack Daniels sounds good. Seriously though the herbal tea from Traditional Medicinals – Breathe Easy (http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/seasonal_products/product/22) is amazing – just sniffed it after it brewed and my sinuses cleared up, tastes good too – can get it at Safeway, Bartells, probably any grocery store. That is if you can find it – might be sold out.

Doesn’t sound as fun as cuddlin’ up with some Jack Daniels!

    Luigi,

I am more of a Makers Mark kind of guy.

Maybe what I need to do is pour some into a netti. That’ll clear the sinuses and kill off any bacteria.

Netti for sure! you can find some recipes online, but i use well disolved kosher salt and baking soda with warm, filtered water. early AM and late PM. big difference.

this weeks culprits are birch, ash, cedar and juniper (pollen.com). you should get some relief when we get a bit of rain. fortunately for me, i am getting a pass right now as my big ones are grass and weeds. those seem to go on for months!

I almost got tbe borescope and pullover done on my sinuses a couple years ago but the cost ($1200 out of pocket) + having to take a week off for recovery (which is always way worse than the doctors say) made the decision for me.

I was just at Bartell’s at Jefferson Square a couple of hours ago, and they still have Neti Pots there, for $15.99. I didn’t look too close, but I think there’s at least two left.

Need to get one, but wasn’t in the budget today. I’ve been using a rubber bulb syringe to flush my sinuses with a salt water solution.

Thanks for the baking soda reminder, B-squared, I keep forgetting that part!

Ok… I feel stupid, but I’m new to this allergy thing. I’ve had a “cold” for about 3 weeks now. Running nose, pressure in my head, extremely low energy, sneezing. I put two and two together and I’m thinking allergies instead of cold, but I’ve never had them before. Does this sound like allergies and when are they going to go away? Can I do anything to increase my energy?

Methinks you have allergies. Colds generally run their course in 4 to 10 days. When will your allergies go away? Depends if you have allergies specifically to tree pollens, or other pollens too. You could be in for a long ride if you have multiple pollen allergies… next October? November?

Someone else might have a better answer for increasing energy. My theory is this. If the symptoms of allergies are wearing you down, address the symptoms by way of the Nettie pot or whatever else works for you; such as benadryl or claritin. I think it is the constant nagging symptoms which make people weary.

My par amour suffers badly at this time of year. In the car we run the a.c. on these beautiful days simply to filter the air coming into the car rather than having the windows or sunroof open. In the house we run our furnace fans which have an electro static zapper to keep the air clean.

Ah, the glory of AC during hayfever season!

EmmyJane – sounds like it could be allergies, but watch that it isn’t a sinus infection – those kick my ass. try some non-drowsy allergy medicine (antihistamine and decongestant) and see if that doesn’t help. the netti pot is great, but difficult to use if you are really clogged up. also, if you are one of those people who like to put their sheets/clothes on a line to dry – DON’T. you can understand the obvious here … not so good.

Mike – they have netti pots at PCC too. if you are a member, you can use your coupon for 10% off, or if you have a chinook book, you can use the coupon in there. i think they are similarly priced as bartells – three models to chose from.

I second that… Gentlemen Jack though is the best whiskey period!! You order it and drink it neat and never mix it with soda or you’re just wasting your money. Only rookies mix whiskey with coke.
