Carla MarieMemberSo, my husband comes home from 7-11 with a nice treat for me, a $2 scratch ticket. I win $10…yea!! The next day we are going to Safeway and bring the ticket with us to cash in. Husband goes to the booth, lady scans the ticket and tells him “sorry, this has already been redeemed and you cannot cash it in twice sir” in a very rude tone. What what?? So, back to 7-11 and they tell us the same thing but were nice about it. We call the lottery office and are told by a nice lady that the ticket was scanned at Safeway, then immediately scanned again which shows it was redeemed. She advises him to go back to Safeway to see if their register was $10 over that day. She also give us her name and number for someone at Safeway to call if there are any problems. So, he returns and goes straight to the store manager, Dave Murphy, and tells him what happened. Dave, upon hearing this gets all huffy and tells husband that he will cash it out this one time, but he is losing money because his register was not over, but now it will be short thanks to him. Husband offers to have him call the lottery office to get it all straightened out. He is obviously pissed and flat out refuses to call. He gives husband the $10 and says “I’m never doing this again for you” while looking at hime like he is the biggest liar and thief ever. Kinda makes you wonder where that $10 went if their registers were not over that day…
Lady at the customer service booth…we are on to you!
After this husband went online and shared his experience with Safeway Corporate. They replied right away about how sorry they are. Husband never heard from the local store.
Folks, we live very close by and went to that store at least 3 times a week. Spent a lotta money there over the years. Not anymore! By the way, the staff at QFC sure is friendly.

KevinParticipantDon’t feel bad. I have not had good experiences with this store manager either. Recently, I complained three separate times (to Dave) about particular items NOT being in stock, and Dave could not bother to call me himself. Instead, he evidently directed an employee to call me to let me know the “item” was now in stock. No apology – no nothing.
.
Try the Roxbury or Admiral Safeway stores. They have a much better vibe! Not to mention better parking.

abstractParticipantThis is by far the worst Safeway I have ever experienced. I have had countless bad experiences at this store. They are closer to me than the other Safeways, but I now make a point to go out of the way to go to the others. About 3 months ago I was in a hurry so decided to run in there and buy yogurt. It took me at least 5 minutes to find yogurt that was not expired. I told the cashier and she said “oh, well we are pretty busy.”

DBPMemberNot going to make any accusations, but there is always the possibility of a skim. I strongly suggest that you report your experience to the State Lottery anyway, even if it was an honest mistake on Safeway’s part. Just in case . . .

Betty TMemberNot an excuse for the manager to be so rude about it. I seldom shop Safeway but prefer Roxbury, its brighter roomier and friendlier. Prefer QFC at the Junction over the one in Westwood because more room to navigate the store.

JiggersMemberI have never been in there since I had bad customer service. It has been about three years now since I have gone into that store alone much less any Safeway for the matter.

dhgParticipantIf she scanned it twice it would have to be within a short time frame. If she did this to this ticket, she’d be doing it to others, frequently. The lottery office should be able to catch fraud like that.

maplesyrupParticipantThat employee would have to be pretty stupid to be skimming a high profile transaction…for $10.

Sea3006MemberI avoid Jeff Square due to the undersized parking spaces. Way too narrow for anything but a Prius.

Mark32ParticipantSounds like a simple mis understanding, I’ve always found Dave to be a very helpful person who has no control over parking by the way.

kootchmanMemberAnd the flip side of the coin…. when I go to see Dave and load up for a N’ville soup recipe or goodies… he always gives me a 10 per cent discount….. the new Admiral one gave me a corporate form to fill out..? The parking is courtesy of of the City of Seattle… they deliberately forced developers to downsize parking spaces via the building code… to force drivers into smaller vehicles. That was a gift from our city.. Safeway had nothing to do with it.

January 29, 2012 at 6:10 pm #746169
GenHillOneParticipantI have a hard time believing the second-hand account of Dave’s reaction; it does not sound like any interaction I’ve ever had with him. And unless there is a new manager, also named Dave, that is not his last name.
January 29, 2012 at 6:22 pm #746170
TDeParticipantI have also had nothing but pleasant interactions with Dave (not Murphy) who’s been the Jefferson Safeway manager for years. He’s never been anything but friendly, helpful and professional. Retailers of all kinds deal with amazing amounts of scams and trickery so it’s entirely possible they are a little jaded when it comes to such stories. The fact that Dave gave you your money should count for something.

munchkin22MemberI also thought that they had the wrong name. The Dave we always deal with has always been helpful and gracious. I took a copy of this the day this was posted up to the store in the event he didn’t know what was being said. He wasn’t there so I gave it to an employee to leave it for him. There’s always two sides to every story.

pdempcyParticipantI agree. They run out of Minute Maid orange juice(!!!)They put things on sale, sell out of the item and then don’t restock. The guy who is in charge of ordering can’t figure out how much to order. And this has been going on for years.
May 22, 2018 at 9:51 am #917395
pdempcyParticipantWho cares if he’s nice. Do your job first. then be nice.

pdempcyParticipantTo the “First World Problems” guy. hey buddy, this is a blog about people who want to share their experiences in west seattle. But now you’re complaining about the complainers. Go to a different website if you don’t like what people are saying

KBearParticipantPdempcy, this is not a blog, it’s a forum page. And you’re commenting on a thread from 6 years ago.
