kathrynberghMemberI am considering a Vegetarian Cooking class that is being offered at the Delridge C.C. through Seattle Parks & Recreation. The class description does not list the instructor’s name, but if anyone has taken a cooking class at Delridge or any other C.C. I would appreciate your feedback about the experience. $50 (the fee for the class) is a lot of money in our current economy! Thanks in advance for your time.

voodooMemberSorry, I cannot attest to the quality of classes at the community centers, but I do know that PCC offers a wide variety of high-quality classes (many of which are vegetarian) through its PCC Cooks program. Most of them are $35 for PCC members and $40 for non-members. Each class typically teaches 3-4 dishes, many with some hands-on instruction.

They also offer FREE Walk, Talk, and Taste tours that are very informative. They include a tour of the store, free samples, and information about various ingredients. You also get recipes, 30-minute menu plans and a shopping coupon.

livingonthebeachMemberI have taken several at South Seattle CC, Whole Foods and PCC. Whole Foods was not my best experience. It was merely a meal with no real instruction. South Seattle CC is great. They teach it in the kitchen and you work right along with the chef. Their instructors are very versed in their individual field.
PCC was great regarding the organic and more natural approach to healthy cooking. Again, a little more of demonstrating verses hands on, but still good information.

KeithMemberI took a knife skills class at SSCC in Feb. The instructor was very friendly and engaging, we learned some basic skills while preparing a dish, but I must admit that I wanted to see and learn more. I guess you can only do so much in one 3-hour class. And what skills/knowledge I did pick up from the class, I now use all the time.
