we just had dinner and were very pleasantly surprised… really good gulf coast mexican food.. especially if you choose one of the stews.

Their chicken mole is delicious, though an extremely sweet mole, so if you’re after a spicy version it’s not the one you will want. As far as a quick and easy place to pop in and sit down for dinner, I really like PV.

Also for those of us who try to keep an eye on the amount of sugar we ingest, they have a low-sugar margarita mix. Granted, the alcohol still adds sugar, but the sweet and sour itself is not just limey simple-syrup.

Maybe I should give them another shot. I went there once and it was awful. Actually, not awful, but no better than your average mall-type Mexican food. They do have HUGE portions, though.

Stay away from the typical “American Mexican” dishes with cheese and you can get a fantastic meal. Order the whole beans instead of the refried. We really like the soups and the fajitas (share a plate b/t two of us). They also have a “smaller” menu with other options, but you have to ask for it…

I prefer the Guadalajara down by Endolyne Joes, great salsa. But my brothers and I hit the bar here for the cheap tacos and margaritas. they are friendly and a little divey.

Puerto Vallarta is absolutely my favorite – I’m there at least once a week. Great drinks, great food and great staff! Lupe is fantastic!

I have only had two bad experiences there – both were in the bar late at night when the bar manager got a little pushy about kicking a friend of mine out of the bar for “sleeping” or bending her torso down to get rid of hiccups once… and… well… for actually sleeping the other time. He got a little rude and pushy but I understand why.

I highly recommend the mole enchiladas! The tamales are great! It’s great if you’re just “kinda” hungry – go in for the bottomless chips and dip and a drink (and leave em a big tip!) I’m constantly in there catching up with old friends for HOURS at a time (and I mean… like… three hours) and I’ve never been rushed out or glared at. This place is amazing.
