JiggersMemberI smell children….lol One of my favorite all time movies. They don’t make these like they used to. I must have been 5 years old when it first came out not sure.

GinaParticipantRobert Helpmann, who played the child catcher, was the choreographer for the movie The Red Shoes.
Just in case anyone needs an extra piece of trivia.

dawsonctParticipantIt’s been bugging me for months, good call Velo. Dick Van Dyke is great, of course. Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay, I guess the darker aspects fit his style, from a book by Ian Fleming, which explains the character name ‘Truly Scrumptious’.

SemeleParticipantthat movie was one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving when I was a kid :)

JiggersMemberThe reason I liked the movie when I was a kid was because I always dreamed of having a car that could fly. Not too mention that Dick Van Dyke played an inventor of cool stuff. Willy Wonka was the other favorite movie as a kid.

JustSarahParticipantConfession of the day: I had a huge crush on Dick Van Dyke as a kid. Specifically, him as Burt in Mary Poppins. Dancing with the penguins.

andreaParticipantI do so love Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Willy Wonka! As a kid, my mom tried to stear us clear of any non-Disney style movies, so these were a few of the staples in our house (back when you had to actually RENT the VCR – Channel 3 Video anyone?!). The child catcher from Chitty gave me such nightmares as a kid! He was so evil…and I love that Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay. He was such a gifted writer of children’s stories.

francis57MemberAnother wonderful film was Pippy Longstocking. A tale of a Swedish girl with exceptional strength and funny pigtails! Delightful for people of all ages and I confess I saw it in the theater circa 1969 (not to date myself!).

velo_nutParticipantPippi was a much better book than a movie.
