WSBKeymasterPancreatic cancer killed my mom. No cancer is “good” but PC in particular sucks. There are few symptoms and it’s almost never caught till it’s way too late – no really solid treatment, either, since it’s seldom operable (except for the rarest form, which is the kind Steve Jobs had). Prognosis is usually 2 to 6 months from diagnosis; my mom managed to make it for 8. Swayze made it for 20 months, amazing.

sacatoshParticipantmy father has it. It does suck. A lot.
Thanks for the link, TR. Maybe with Patrick Swayze’s passing, there will be a bit more attention on Pancreatic Cancer. Maybe.
…and FWIW, we have one of the best treatment locations in the country in Virginia Mason Medical Center. The national 5-year survival rate for Pancreatic Cancer is 5%. At VMMC it’s 10%. Doubling the odds is nothing to sneeze at.

dhgParticipantMy mom, too, died from it, at the age of 59. She had a deathly fear of doctors and so did not see a doctor or go to the hospital until just two days before she passed on. That might have been just as well since, at that time, the survival rate was probably near 1% and who wants to be poked and prodded and then sent home with those odds? RIP Patrick Swayze.
