We stopped by, about to post a photo or two on the main page. There were some folks already lined up waiting to get in. It’s JUST beer – not a beer ‘n’ burgers type place – you all probably knew that. Sorry we can’t vouch for the offerings, strictly a business visit. – TR

The beer is good. The place looks nice on the inside. Amazing what a coat of paint can do. I have a 3 beer buzz on a nice summer day. Life could be worse.

we showed up right around 8. it was really cool. I like the way they changed the decor- very clean and simple. nice women’s restroom! the beer was really good – they had two on tap- the Irish Red and the Abbey Wheat. Both were great & very drinkable. There was a nice crowd and live music. Nice job Big Al & Noelle! What a great addition to WC!

Thank you all for coming, I couldn’t be happier with the turn out and it was great to meet everyone. I’m glad you all enjoyed the beer, there’s much more to come!!

I was so sad when I showed up at Pacific Rim with my growler one day, to find that it had closed. So I’m delighted that Big Al has come to save the day.

Now…any chance of an IPA sometime soon, Big Al? I’m a hop-head and crave the bitter suds. I know hops are increasingly expensive…so charge more for IPA…but please brew it!! Please!!??

Anyone know if it is 21 & older or not? I am assuming it is since no food…but was hoping otherwise :)

Okay, so I’ve heard some mixed reviews (mostly from very hard to please beer snobs) but I still haven’t been to Big Al’s myself. Don’t worry, I’ll rectify that on my own, but I do think it’s time for another WSB/WC meet-up… Anyone?

Hey RS – Where are you seeing the reviews?

Not seeing any official reviews- just hearing from a couple people who went on their opening day. There’s only one review up on Yelp so far. Hopefully people will add more soon!

Yeah Big Al, is it 21 over? Cant always get a sitter, or we like to have beers with our sitter ( Auntie Jen V ).

Is there going to be some small foodie items?

    Thanks,

In general, what are the rules for a place being 21 and over or not? It seems like an automatic that an establishment that only sells alcohol and no food would be 21+. As a childfree person, I’m often glad that the bars I enjoy don’t allow children. Of course, I often get to be the babysitter for the WSBer who first posted the question above and it would be nice for us all to enjoy Big Al’s together! :)

Yes, the mamas need to drink with Auntie RS!

    Anyone know the rules!

    RS,

Normally a pub with food can choose to be minor friendly, a pub without food I don’t think can allow minors. (correct me if I’m wrong)

Serving liquor is similar as well, if you have a seperate area for 21+ that seperates the space from minors (that’s why you see so many stand-up bars or walls just a few feet away from the bar) Then you can have minors, or the establishment can voluntarily choose not to give minors entry.

There also use to be a law that the bathrooms had to be a certain distance from the Bar area as to not entice the “young’ns” from slipping in, or sipping in. This building code might still be in existence.

When this was Pac Rim, and they only had beer and no food, kids were allowed in the courtyard area at the picnic tables and chairs, but not in the building where the taps were, except for using the bathrooms. I think there may be a difference within the Seattle city limits and outside of them. Don’t know for sure.

I am not sure of Big Al’s policy, but the old Rim was kid friendly. It is not really a pub. It is a brewery with a tasting room. I have seen many kids inside the old PAc Rim. I would just call Al and ask.

    #628846

Biggest question is: Are you guys just going to keep the bar area a “tasting room” or are you going to open it up and make it a friendly “tavern” atmosphere?

We went the other evening and though we liked the Red beer, the place felt cold and uninviting. Will we go back? Yes.

I know you guys just opened, I just didnt get a feel for whats going on yet or what you are trying to achieve.

Liquor laws do not vary city by city as they are mandated by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. Of course how they are handled by individual establishments is up to them and the board employees that police them.

We are kid friendly (dog friendly too outside!). We are operating under a Microbrewery license which allows us to have minors in the tasting room.

Todd: I’m very sorry and concerned you felt the tasting room was cold and uninviting. Was it the atmosphere (or lack thereof) or the people? If it was the people, then please contact me and share your experience (206-453-4487). If it was the atmosphere, then well yes, its a little bland right now. Here’s what we are trying to achieve, we are a microbrewery, we want to create great, interesting, wonderful beers for you all to enjoy. That is our focus. We painted the tasting room and added lighting to open the place up. The walls are bare now, but they won’t be for long. Because our focus is beer, when the beer was ready, we were ready to open, art or no art on the walls. We will be adding darts, shuffleboard, and a tv to the upstairs at some point. We have no plans to offer food at this time but we invite you to bring or order your own. We are working on a menu book which will be full of establishments that will deliver to the brewery.

Thanks for all of your interest and comments here.I have enjoyed meeting many of you, please continue to introduce yourselves to us as you come in!

    Cheers!

    Big Al
