missaudreyhorneParticipantI know Redline is having one, but are there any other bars or restaurants having a debate party Friday that you know of? I’m going to be going out with friends for cocktails and might want to catch some political action as well. I’d prefer ones that are either not party affiliated or leaning toward the Obama side.
(ps please please don’t hijack my post, I don’t want to discuss politics or whether or not I should drink/go to bars, just want places to view the debates in action)
September 24, 2008 at 8:51 pm #641019
missaudreyhorneParticipantOh wait, are they being canceled? Dangit.
September 24, 2008 at 8:53 pm #641020
mellaw6565MemberMiss – if you find one that’s not in a bar, please post.
September 24, 2008 at 8:55 pm #641021
missaudreyhorneParticipantMaybe you could host one, mellaw? Hehe.
September 24, 2008 at 8:56 pm #641022
mellaw6565MemberIt will definitely be BYOB:)
September 24, 2008 at 9:39 pm #641023
JanSParticipantOk…Obama is not pulling out just yet, saying we need the debates more than ever. If not cancelled, I have a list of private homes and/or other places around the sound, including, I believe, Obama’s HQ downtown…
September 24, 2008 at 9:45 pm #641024
BayouMemberWow, thanks JanS! 88 results within 50 miles of Seattle so I’m sure there’s got to be a few that aren’t specifically bars, mellaw.
Grownfolks Coffeehouse sounds non-alcoholic.
September 24, 2008 at 9:51 pm #641025
CaitParticipantI’m a bit worried I won’t be able to hear them if I go to a bar to watch. Though that’s really what I’d like to do as a stiff drink may be in order. Any places that people know are going to be a bit quieter?
September 24, 2008 at 10:08 pm #641026
mellaw6565MemberI don’t have any issues with alcohol per se – just don’t know why people would go to a bar to watch a debate. I would think noise and rudeness would be big issues.
September 24, 2008 at 10:21 pm #641027
missaudreyhorneParticipantWell, not ALL bars are full of noisy and rude people, plus it is fun to make new friends over drinks and similar politics. I see your point, though. There have been many times when I have felt like punching obnoxious drunks. (I don’t, because I don’t hit, but it is always nice to fantasize).
September 24, 2008 at 10:22 pm #641028
missaudreyhorneParticipantAlso (while hoping that this thread doesn’t get out of control) it is easier to find an open bar than it is to find an open party, and one doesn’t always desire staying at home. Plus, I like the drinking. :)
September 24, 2008 at 10:27 pm #641029
mellaw6565MemberTo each their own – I just think of bars for watching drunks and sporting events and not good for much else, especially a political debate which should be a much more civilized event than watching a sporting match.
September 24, 2008 at 10:34 pm #641030
missaudreyhorneParticipantWell, to be honest, I’m not that cilized.
September 24, 2008 at 10:39 pm #641031
mellaw6565MemberWell then, sounds like the bars are a good bet for you:) Good luck!
September 24, 2008 at 10:50 pm #641032
JanSParticipantI appreciate that there are some people in the Seattle area who are actually opening their homes to others to watch (that is, if it happens). And…if you click on any of the links on that page, they want you to RSVP…so they know who’s coming, at least how many.
missaudrey…cilized? I taught you better than that – lol…did you get started early on today’s drinking? (for those who don’t know, we’re related…hehe)
September 24, 2008 at 11:16 pm #641033
ZenguyParticipantJanS, didn’t know that. It did make me laugh…thank goodness I figured out how to edit my own late night, had a glass of wine posts…lol

villagegreenMembermellaw6565 – If you equate all bars with drunks and sporting events you have been going to the wrong bars. There are many ‘civilized’ bars right here in West Seattle. In fact, one just opened last week – The Bohemian. A bit too civilized for my taste, but to each their own.
September 25, 2008 at 12:17 am #641035
missaudreyhorneParticipantAh, crap. CIVILIZED. No drinking today, I’m at work! Apparently I cannot type correctly, though.
September 25, 2008 at 12:18 am #641036
mellaw6565MemberCivilized life, friends, conversation – yes, that’s what I’m looking for. That includes politics. I don’t imagine that booze and politics mixes and anyone that needs booze in order to stay civilized has other issues, IMO.
A civilized bar – I’d go for that.
September 25, 2008 at 12:18 am #641037
JanSParticipantMissA,you have probably inherited my dyslexic fingers ;-)

JoBParticipantSeptember 25, 2008 at 12:20 am #641039
mellaw6565MemberJoB – I see them at happy hours – they don’t wait until closing time.

JenVMembermissaudreyhorne et all who want to watch the debate (if it even happens) in a bar- Drinking Liberally is a great group. Last time I checked they meet at the Montlake Ale House. It would be a great place to socialize and watch the debates with politically like minded people. Plus, if you wanted to start up a West Seattle chapter, you can!

edited to include correct link. looks like the Burien chapter meets at Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub.
September 25, 2008 at 1:05 am #641041
RSMemberOooh, sounds like a good project for a WSBer to start a chapter!! I’m not much of a starter, (apparently I’m a “protector”) but I’d be a joiner! ;)

WSBKeymasterThe 34th District Democrats, largest political organization in West Seattle, adjourn to Elliott Bay Brewery post-meetings, apparently. We’ve covered their last few meetings and I recall hearing that, plus I think you can find it on their website.
