YardvarkMemberI went down to Occupy last night. Had a bit of a positive bias going in, as I definitely support the cause, but I was still blown away by how well organized, respectful, energized, and joyful it was.
I actually attended three of the most efficient, productive group meetings I have ever attended in my life. Didn’t expect that. Kinda felt like I should be taking notes on meeting management, as I think I might even try using some of the Occupy governance techniques in my professional life. They really seemed to invite all opinions while still be efficient and productive.
I thought I would go in and maybe educate those good folks a little on what they needed to do to be successful, to be rational. I walked away pretty darn humbled and with an education myself.
Very, very impressive.
I encourage others to spend some time down there, whether you’re fully behind their strategy or not, just to gain a little insight into this movement and the gears that drive it. I really enjoyed the four hours I spent there and left inspired to return.
Open Air Democracy is a beautiful thing. Don’t miss out on seeing it in action.

DBPMemberInspiring piece of citizen journalism there, Vark of the Yard ! Thank you so much.
Now I would like to challenge some of our more conservative colleagues to go down to Westlake, chat with folks, and see for yourselves what’s going on. Then report back here.
What I’m about to say may seem like a shocking concept to some . . . but the objectives of Occupy Seattle and the Tea Party are not as different as one might think. Both groups are generally frustrated with government malfeasance, and both believe in using grassroots citizen action to bring about a better society.

as someone supporting the ideals of the tea party..
a movement funded by the Koch brothers
don’t you feel just a little silly labeling Obama as a crony capitalist on the basis of campaign contributions?

kootchmanMemberI don’t feel crazy one bit… The Messiah was awash…in Wall Street cash. The difference is, Obama uses our tax dollars to reward his cronies. He is starting to look even more ridiculous… desperate. I see our Nobel Peace prize winners has lit the match on yet another one.. Uganda?

YardvarkMemberUnfortunately, Obama is just as guilty as other national politicians. Those that still support him, need to make their voices heard and demand that he face up to the reality that he is being purchased with each big donation to his campaign.

JoBParticipantYardvark..
did all of progressive America fail to notice that Obama made his political chops in one f the most corrupt political environments in America?
what exactly did we expect?
He is amazingly clean for a chicago politician.

YardvarkMemberI’ll agree he is amazingly clean for a former Chicago politician but the bar isn’t just low on that one. It’s non-existent.
“[Lobbyists] will not work in my white house.”
-Candidate Obama
Obama’s first hire to manage his transition: John Pedesta, former lobbyist & brother of powerful Washington lobbyist, Tony Pedesta
Obviously, national politicians can’t create the bar, even if they’d like to do so. That’s our job. And we must demand that candidates and representatives of the people exceed it by far.
On the bright side, I think that bar creation is now starting to catch on all throughout the world.
