What I meant to say was that the media is spending so much time focusing on her that they aren’t covering the rest of the TP running for office. As a result, even though she will lose, the others might win. Wouldn’t even bet a dollar that she might win.

No, I meant why is the term “teabagger” considered an insult? Isn’t it a sexual act performed by a primarily left-leaning demographic? Are they offended when the term is used to “insult”, was my question.

    Fortune 250. :~)

    Smitty,

Tea Bag is not meant as an insult. I think as a whole, it describes that group perfectly. I have no issues what anyone does behind closed doors, as long as its consenting adults.

Smitty, this may be even more annoying (but we know I live to annoy R’s:) :-) Frank Rich agrees with you about the possibility that Christine may a “rope-a-dope” and I was just looking for an excuse to post this link so here goes:

I’m so happy that the NYT headline writers are allowed to use the word “idiocy”.

smitty and carson, if i recall correctly, the term “teabagging” was actually first used by online gamers. there was a feature in the half-life add-ons that allowed players to squat/hide. when a player would do this over his dead foe’s face, it looked like the – shall we say prurient? – act that has come to be known as teabagging.

i should also point out that teabagging – as used in the prurient form – doesn’t necessarily have to be a homosexual act, and i find your homophobia accusation kind of telling. :)

but to your point, smitty, i agree with carson. (i’m sure that you’re surprised.) this wave of anti-taxation cheerleading is anathema to the spirit of the boston tea party, and the blood of its patriots is actually watering the tree of corporate hegemony.

you’re correct that they foisted the label on themselves unwittingly; partly i don’t want them to forget their embarassing oversight when they chose to pin tea bags to their hat brims. i also don’t like them falsely appropriating the revolution of 1776 or the culpepper minutemen. the colonists who destroyed british east india’s tea in 1773 would be insulted.

furthermore, republicans and conservatives have a long record of pinning insulting and diminutive labels on liberals (e.g. traitor, socialist, communist, appeaser, commiecrat, demon rat, democrat party, hitlery clinton, obama bin laden) and have often regarded us as unamerican, despite the fact that, like them, we speak up for what we believe this country should be and do. we usually take it with good nature and respond as we see fit. so it’s kind of a secret pleasure to watch them scrunch up their faces indignantly when one calls them “teabaggers.”

so, yeah. it’s largely retribution that they’ve earned. what the hell? like i’ve said before, this is blood sport, not a tickle fight. and until they register a viable political party calling themselves the tea party, i will continue to call them teabaggers.

    regarding o’donnell, i think she’s everything they want – and deserve – in a candidate, and i don’t believe that they’re smart enough to pull a rope-a-dope.

    smitty…

i can’t speak for anyone else.. but i am a reasonably educated woman who didn’t know that the term tea-bagger had any implications other than the tea-bag party until i was informed of some homosexual connotation here.

i still don’t know what that connotation is.. nor am i the least bit interested in finding out. i suspect like other group specific slang it that one will be buried in obscurity long before the political movement that labeled themselves tea-baggers.

    charlabob..

when i speak of democratic advertising i am speaking of selling a bill that has more benefit to the health insurance industry than to middle class americans struggling to pay for health care bills as health reform.

to be honest i don’t watch the political ads on eighter side unless they come into my mailbox.. and even then it is a toss up as to whether i watch or delete…

i wouldn’t have approved of Alan Grayson labeling his opponent taliban but sure would have enjoyed seeing it ;)e

I always was told Tea Bagging was a term used by Catholic Priests when they had their Saturday Morning ritual with the Alter Boys….maybe that was just an East Coast thing.

    Carson…

someone explained it to me at lunch…

when i asked how they knew..

they told me that had looked it up on wiki when jon stewart did the week long laugh a thon on the tea party identifying itself as tea baggers.

    i must have missed that.

i don’t think it’s a term i will be using to identify anything or anyone as anything but a member of the tea party,

it is unfortunate that the term has an alternative meaning.. but it’s not one i made up…

or when i am going to spend too much time thinking about.

A gentleman can dunk his ‘teabags’ in a cup of either gender. It would be advisable that the partner be willing. Hope they don’t sneeze.

At least the Tea Partiers are tidy. Look at the left wingers lame march at the Washington Monument. Bunch of litter bugs. Many less people than Beck’s 8/28 march. Many sides of the American electorate.

The lefts rhetoric sounds good but never lives up to its promises. The American people wanted change but not this. The Progressive movement has come too far.

Why do they always denigrate the opposition?. Because in the arena of issues negativity persuades. Oh Alinsky. Recommended reading by the NEA. Dedicated to Satan. HMMMM.

Hah, The Tea Party pisses some of you off. Good. Deal with it. I am glad belt way Republicans are getting booted too.

Obama is a wimp. Wahh! Its W’s fault. He is a wuss. Blame, Blame, Blame. Sarah Palin at least had some experience in a major office. (I know how you love Sarah). Previous Presidents inherited bad economies but didn’t blame the former office holder. He has had so many political successes in two years but the electorate knows they bought a bill of goods. He should be triumphant but he is acting like a failure. The left candidates are running away from those “triumphs” Only in the most liberal areas can he endorse a candidate (like Seattle) is he truly welcomed.

Democrats are campaigning like they are fiscally responsible and against the pork. Look at the voting record. Look at the debt, look at the deficit, look at the unemployment rate, look at consumer confidence, look at our health care premiums sky rocketing. Are you better off now? Unless you invested heavily in Gold or hit it big in Penny Stocks, or work for the federal government, I am guessing you are not flourishing, and I wish you were.

It may not happen here but the wave of change is coming and you had better get used to some new blood in DC. People saw Obama’s hope and change and nobody is buying, except the hard left, and lately they are grumbling.

The new blood might even stabilize the country enough that BHO gets re-elected. . . but I doubt it. Maybe he will take ownership of what is transpiring. Or maybe he will be Barack Herbert Hoover.

rich: see, by littering, progressives and liberals created jobs. after the wholesale dismantling of the government under republicans, they’re probably private sector jobs, too.

seriously, though, do you have any answers to the charges that progressives are making? do you have any concern that unemployment is at 10% and the top 2% are gaining wealth and dodging taxes? no problem with banks charging us exorbitant interest and charging themselves none? (i.e. APR’s are high, APY’s are low. win for them, bupkis for us; even though the fed demanded that the government bail them out.) any answer to the charges that insurance companies make profits by rarbitrarily raising premiums and denying coverage because of deregulation?

you also don’t seem to understand that the deficit has bloomed – partly because of stimulus and bailouts – largely because tax cuts and the wars are on-budget under obama. and you were probably silent when w added $4 trillion to the debt and ran yearly deficits of $300 – $450 billion dollars, while keeping war spending off the books.

your post is platitudinous, but conveniently avoids the cause of debt, deficit, skyrocketing premiums, and unemployment.

the teabaggers – and you – don’t piss me off. they scare me. they’re ignorant of economics and callous toward people. they’re selfish and lazy. they fail to understand that the government is the only thing standing between them and abject poverty at the hands of corporate america, and they’re voting against their own self-interest.

then again, you probably believe that right-wing b.s. about how all liberals want a dole check and a nanny state. next the government will be making shoes, right?

whining? we’re not whining. we’re determined to stop corporate hegemony and make this economy work for everyone. we’re going to work to right our trade imbalance. there’s a lot we’re determined do to correct the failuers of the past 30 years that got us here.

whining? whining is bitching about deficits, taxes, and spending without offering any solutions.

so don’t start picking out drapes just yet.

one last question: where is this liberal media that conservatives/teabaggers always crow about? where was the cable news coverage of the one nation march? where is the coverage of all of obama’s town hall meetings lately? where is the coverage of the good things that democrats have been doing for working-class americans in the past four years?

no wonder you think obama acts like a failure: you never see or hear anything more than infrequent sound bites, making him look mum on issues, when, in fact, he’s been quite vocal lately.

    HMCRich..

    what a comedy routine :))))

“Look at the debt, look at the deficit, look at the unemployment rate, look at consumer confidence, look at our health care premiums sky rocketing. “

and you think that was the democrats?

perhaps you aren’t reading recent enough history.

the problems with “progressives” is that the solutions haven’t been progressive enough:(

    very well said….

what HMCRick knows about the one nation march he learned from FOX news..

who underestimated the crowd and concentrated on litter left behind…

the opposite of what they did for the Glen Beck’s insult to America.

    LOL..

didn’t you know.. anything left of far right is liberal ?
