bluebirdMemberNew poll:
“58 percent of GOP not sure/doubt Obama born in US”
Not sure if that’s sad or just outright pathetic.

JoBParticipantbluebird..
it’s pathetic..
but it sure speaks to the power of advertising.
a lesson the democrats had better learn soon.
edit…
i probably shouldn’t go here..
but this idea that if you say something often enough it must be true.. there is no smoke if there isn’t fire…
is pervasive in our society and has gotten much worse…
because there are literally generations of Americans who have been fed this crap from the television…
and newspapers more concerned with sensationalism than fact…
and the lack of investment in quality investigative journalism that passes gossip and fantasy off as truth…
that too many either dismiss everything as lies or believe nearly everything they hear.
this is why it is so critically important to invest in education now.
An educated electorate is vital to the success of a democracy.
If so many republicans actually believe that anyone could secure the office of President of the United States without actually being an American citizen, then our educational system and our news media are failing us abysmally.

JoBParticipantJanS..
does this mean I have to stop believing in bigfoot?
my uncle said he saw Bigfoot…
Of course he was a republican and he was drunk at the time…
but i have always maintained he could have been right this one time.
i heard something pretty spooky once by Multnomah Falls in Oregon…
and i saw something pretty big and pretty fast once by Beacon rock in Washington…
they can swim you know.

KalHellMemberThe Birthers are kooks, but they got to be one of the best things for us Dems. We need to keep it going so we can split the Republicans down the middle, because half claim to be Birthers. I think Obama might need some more time to get things done. Maybe we could get another Dem in 2016 with this too?

MagpieParticipantOh, if George Carlin were alive…the poetry and rhymes he would have come up with…

JoBParticipantBill Maher did a good take on why we ignore the birthers at our peril the other night…

KenParticipantFor anyone interested in a little more in depth look at where the birther movement and many other right wing conspiracy movements come from, here is a scholarly look at the history and power of the anti intellectual religious movements in the last half of the twentieth century.

JoBParticipantIn my adulthood, the quality of education measured by the ability of graduates to manage basic math skills and reasoning has declined substantially…
conspiracy theories aside.. there are some who actually benefit from a dumber america…

c@lbobMembercommonsense and HMC Rich jumped on the ecomomy in reply to the birther issue. I guess they thought that would be a better club to use then.
Barack Obama ruining the ecomomy doesn’t play so well now.
That’s the peril of prediction.
One of the two was sane enough to disavow the birther conspiracy amid their smoke screen.
I hope Ken’s surmise that health care reform provide services to deal with your mania turns out for you, HMC Rich.
