Caroline Kennedy and two others has been asked to be on the “commmittee” to put together a VP list. Meantime who’s on your list?

I’m happy he announced this commission, and set it for June or July.

Heck McCain has had the past 3 months to ponder this, and has not been forced to make a decision. The idea that Barack should be held at gunpoint the couple of days after he secures the nomination is crazy…

Let’s enjoy the ride. I look forward to as many days as possible of McCain versus Obama head to head. Change versus same. Old versus new. Ipod versus Walkman…

I loved McCain trying to hijack change last night, prior to Obama speaking… It was awesome. The old white male, who voted w/ the current adminstration 95% of the time over the last year, and supports the president on every major policy issue is actually the agent of change, not Barack… Great plan.

And then there’s Obama (the young, ignorant black man – I guess that’s ok to say since we are back to making the candidate’s race an issue), who will significantly raise taxes and has had the most liberal record across the board.

Ask yourself, is Obama really about change, or more of the same, circa 1965?

I agree, though, walfredo, why rush announcing the VP? I think everyone is just anxious because of the whole Hillary fiasco.

You forgot, too, vinyl record versus cd.

Tonya42, that was nice of you put out a congratulations on the other Obama thread.

Walfredo, did you see how badly McCain’s speech was panned last night. The best a republican analyst could come up with was *good thing this isn’t based on speeches*. That was one of the nicer things said. I am so looking forward to the debates.

    Thank you for noticing JT.

Your candidate has his work cut out for him. I will say this is going to be an exciting fight to the finish. I just hope you don’t take the loss too terribly hard :)

NR, now the race is on — who owe’s whom what beverage based on the victor? As I recall, I was betting that McCain would win and you were thinking he would lose…But that was long ago in a far different world. :-) whatever it is, as long as drinks and good company are involved, i’m there.

Some of you might be interested in this story of the intervention that was organized by the Clinton Campaign to convince HRC that it was over.

I’m sure we’ll have heated battles again but, hopefully they’ll include a lot of light and we’ll all drink together at the end. :-)

Meantime, Clinton sent email to her supporters’ list, which I’m on, saying she’s going to announce:

“On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy.”

“I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.”

I have to say, I wasn’t convinced, despite the “intervention” of her staff and key senators and representatives. Now I am, and the title of this thread finally works.

I like it- Obama in Virginia today. No wasting time. This is a key battleground state that he has put in play.

Jim Webb campaigning with him today on this his first day of campaigning as the nominee. Could this be an audition?

Next week he’s going to hit the areas of Appalachia where he has the least support. I like the fact that he tackles the hard stuff head on.

Speaking of which, did everyone read the amusing article on HuffPo about his “confrontation” with Lieberman? I liked it especially, because it was strictly about body language.

Lieberman needs to be tossed off the bus if not under it.

    In other news:

Senator Barack Obama, as he becomes his party’s presumptive presidential nominee, is starting to exert his authority over the Democratic National Committee. A first step? New fund-raising guidelines.

Mr. Obama is announcing today that the D.N.C. will no longer accept contributions from federal lobbyists or political action committees, which follows the rules he established for his own campaign last year.

“We want the Democratic Party to conform to his standards of openness to reduce the influence of special interests,” Linda Douglass, a campaign spokeswoman, told reporters today before Mr. Obama flew from New York City for a campaign stop in Virginia.

Yup, and (as a former Dean supporter) I like the fact that Dean is staying as DNC chair and they’re going to pursue the “run in every state” strategy. This is the year (and the person) to make the United States united, instead of red and blue. As he said long ago in the convention speech — we’ll all be purple :-)

He certainly isn’t wasting any time, or being at all tentative, about what he wants for and from the party. It really is an exciting time!

Senate Intel Committee’s Phase II report on the misuse of intelligence leading up to the war.

    Also see: http://intelligence.senate.gov/080605/phase2b.pdf

Statements and implications by the President and Secretary of State suggesting that Iraq and al-Qa’ida had a partnership, or that Iraq had provided al-Qa’ida with weapons training, were not substantiated by the intelligence.

Statements by the President and the Vice President indicating that Saddam Hussein was prepared to give weapons of mass destruction to terrorist groups for attacks against the United States were contradicted by available intelligence information.

Statements by President Bush and Vice President Cheney regarding the postwar situation in Iraq, in terms of the political, security, and economic, did not reflect the concerns and uncertainties expressed in the intelligence products.

Statements by the President and Vice President prior to the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate regarding Iraq’s chemical weapons production capability and activities did not reflect the intelligence community’s uncertainties as to whether such production was ongoing.

The Secretary of Defense’s statement that the Iraqi government operated underground WMD facilities that were not vulnerable to conventional airstrikes because they were underground and deeply buried was not substantiated by available intelligence information.

The Intelligence Community did not confirm that Muhammad Atta met an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague in 2001 as the Vice President repeatedly claimed

    And in other news…

I believe that we can win an overwhelming victory in a very short period of time.

    — John McCain, 2002
