miwsParticipantFor anyone that has considered, but not yet gotten, their ORCA Card, for payment of Fare on area Transit Agencies, the deadline to get one, without paying the impending $5.00 fee, has been extended by a month, per the METRO website.
Come on, Jiggers! ;-) (and others) Get your ORCA Card!

luckymom30ParticipantCan you put any amount on the card?

miwsParticipantHi luckymom, I couldn’t find that info, giving a quick glance at the ORCA website, however, I’m 99.999999982% sure you can put any amount between $5.00 and $300.00 on the card.
If you currently use a Puget Pass, there is a way to “load” one of those on the ORCA Card as well. I believe there is also a way to load a Puget Pass, and E-Purse (pay per ride, as if you were using cash/tickets) combination, so that any added fare needed, for peak hour charges is deducted from the E-Purse, and you don’t have to drop the cash difference into the farebox.
Another cool thing, is if your E-Purse level gets to under $5.00, the card reader on the bus will alert you, and show you the remaining balance.
One thing to note though, is if you add value to your card online, is that you must ride, and tap your card on a bus within 30 days, for the added value to be applied. Essentially, the bus’ card reader needs to “tell” your card that value has been added. (don’t remember from my reading of the ORCA site whether the same is true for adding value at a vending machine, or in person), If, for some reason, you don’t use the card within the 30 days, you can contact ORCA Customer Service, and they’ll apply it for you.

luckymom30ParticipantThanks Mike! Don’t ride the bus much but good to know.

miwsParticipantYeah, I love it!
Having been unemployed for quite awhile now, I was very frustrated having to hassle with bus ticket combos of various denominations, and/or cash, having been “spoiled” by many, many years of having a pass of some sort. (Best was from the job I had from Summer of ’98 through Fall of ’03, that paid the entire cost, of a full value Flex Pass).
I’ve been urging just about anyone that will listen, to get the ORCA, especially while it’s still free to aquire one, even for those that rarely ride. Just load it up with a token amount, and if you suddenly find yourself needing to ride a bus, and don’t have the exact change, or anywhere near it, ORCA will make it so much easier to ride.
