WSBKeymasterWe haven’t had a problem with this before (aside from the spam registrations which I kill several times a day before they ever post anything) but just had one now (thanks to the member who flagged us, moments after my co-publisher spotted it and called it to my attention, at which time we killed it). No advertisements. Businesses are welcome to participate in discussions, or to answer bonafide Reader Recommendation Requests, or to post jobs if the business (and the job) is physically based in West Seattle. Otherwise, simply posting an announcement of your business is not an acceptable use of the forum; we would be happy to talk to you about selling you ad space. If you have an event coming up at your business that you think might qualify for the events calendar, please e-mail it to editor@westseattleblog.com for consideration.
Thank you very much for your cooperation — TR (WSB editor/co-publisher)

AnonymousInactiveI thought that was pretty jerky too. And completely unfair to the legitimate advertisers.

JoeSchaferMemberIf that was my posting, I’m sorry I did not know the rules. This is my first day ever to do this… I will go through the approved advertising.

JeraldParticipantIt seems to me that your post was okay, Joe. You were answering a Reader Recommendation Request, not just randomly posting a notice about yourself. But I’m not the rule maker. I’ll be interested to see what others have to say.

WSBKeymasterI’ve said previously that it’s OK to answer a reader-rec request if you’re a business as long as you clearly identify yourself (no “Hey! I hear Company XX is great!” when you are Company XX, which has happened), at least as long as the concept doesn’t get abused (e.g. we would watch closely for a request and reply from the same IP address), but this seems pretty aboveboard – TR

IrukandjiParticipantHey Joe the Poster!
Welcome to WSB. I missed the advertising SNAFU, but hope you’ll see WSB is definitely worth your sponsorship bucks. Best to you, and good luck.
