anonymeParticipantLast week there were surveyors out on 35th south of Roxbury. I asked what they were doing and they said that they were doing prep work for continuing the west side sidewalk from 100th down to 106th.
Do neighbors have any say in this? This is a narrow, two-lane stretch of road; sidewalks on both sides means no parking on either. Is any kind of notification given before construction starts? Will my property tax bill skyrocket? I’ve also landscaped the entire perimeter of my property, and would be seriously displeased to come home and find it torn out one day.
It seems like there should be some kind of community involvement (or at least communication!) about a project that will have a major impact on residents in this area. It may be a good thing in the long run, but it would be nice to have some information.

WSBKeymasterThis was a community-requested improvement, according to this doc, which is the city’s refinement of a Neighborhood Street Fund project:

I’ll ask Brian Dougherty for more details on timing. Part of this is budgeted for construction next year.

It’s all buried in the city budget somewhere … TR

anonymeParticipantTracy, thanks for the link and info. It’s way worse than I thought; the impact will be dramatic.
Ironically, the person (singular) who made this application moved out of Seattle over a year ago.

WSBKeymasterSame fund involved in the Pho Aroma/nearby perpendicular parking story we reported a couple weeks ago. That’s one of the stories I’m publishing before the end of the night, the next round of applications to be reviewed by the Delridge District Council (Arbor Heights not involved, but a chance for people to take a look before the review).

suzanneParticipantWSB, thanks for all of that info. Personally, I am thrilled about this since Arbor Heights is in dire need of sidewalks. I’ve been so happy with the new sidewalk from Roxbury to 100th and this extension just makes sense. And it looks like most of the parking will remain.

GoGoParticipantCan we get sidewalks in the rest of Arbor Heights? That would be great!
