So cool! I think sometime between when our house was built in 1946 and present day, someone got extremely paranoid there would be a fire in the house and they wouldn’t be able to escape. There is literally a door in every single room of our house, with the exception of the bathrooms and one room in the basement. From the picture on that website, I can see all the doors weren’t there when it was built.

Carson, after moving back to WS from Kitsap County in late ’73, I would occasionally drop by the old neighborhood and visit some of the neighbors.

Sometime in probably the mid towards late ’70’s, I got up the nerve to knock on the door of the old house (after talking to one of the neighbors, who said the guy that lived there seemed like a nice guy, and not the murderous type ;-) ), and told the guy I used to live there, and ask if I could come in and take a look around.

IIRC, this guy bought it from the couple that my Dad sold it to, although there may have been another owner in between.

I had already heard that the people that bought it from us, had painted the blonde kitchen cupbords white, and added a bedroom in the basement.

There was one oddity when we lived there, in that there was a wall switch in the master bedroom, that switched a receptacle in the living room off and on. They were essentially postitioned kitty corner from the back part of the house to the front part. I remember my Dad saying he figured whoever set it up (likely the builder) must have had a radio in the living room, that he would listen to for awhile in bed at night, then switch off.

IIRC, the “new guy” hadn’t been able to figure out what the switch went to.

I also mentioned to the guy that there had been floor to ceiling (or nearly) storage cabinets along one wall in the basement, and after telling him that, he was disappointed they were no longer there, because they would have been handy for his photography hobby.

Continuing on, into the ’80’s, my friendship with a couple that lived a couple doors down strengthened. When we lived in our house, they had two boys, one the same age as me, the other the same age as my older Brother, and the lady and my Mom were best friends.

The guy that lived our house in the mid/late ’70’s, had moved, and was renting it to a couple that were around my age, and they and the couple two doors down befriended each other.

So, I occasionally got to drink beer in my old house!

Around the mid/late ’80’s, another guy around my age bought the place, and lived there probably into the early ’90’s. He also befriended the couple, so I still got to hang around the ol’ homestead occasionally!

It was funny though. Anytime this guy did something to the house, such as rip up the wall to wall carpet, (which was crappy looking when we lived there) and restored the hardwood floors, he’d feel guilty about it. Like I’d be offended. And he was serious! He even referred to the place as “The (Mylastname) Mansion”. :-D I reassured him that I had no problem with the changes he’d made, and especially bringing back the hardwoods looked a helluva lot better than the “crapet”!

Thank you very much for pointing this feature out! It is nice to see my 1949 brick rambler in pristine, new condition. There were not even any shrubs, small trees, or a lawn. Just the newly constructed house in all its glory?!?!

I looked up the rental house I’m in, and it was really cool to see it before previous owners put in all the extensive trees, bushes, flowers, and fence – it’s nothing but flat grass (and before they finished the front of the house). Doesn’t say what year it is, but I’m sure it’s old since our trees are huge and well-established.

What really cracked me up was the photo of the “floor plan” – it was a piece of paper where someone scribbled the shape of the duplex, labeled where the baths, bedrooms, kitchen are, and then showed where they were going to put the front extension. Looked like a kid scribbled it – LOL!
