Janet M.ParticipantHas anyone recently had your oil furnace decommissioned? I understand that the regulations changed in 2010 and they now need to be drained, filled, and capped.
Referrals and approximatly what you were charged for this service would be appreciated.
I understand it can be very pricy now.
Thank you.

Genesee HillParticipantI went the removal route because we had PLIA. I recommend FILCO locally. We were impressed by their professionalism and expertise.
I believe I paid around 900 dollars or so for the removal, PLIA paid the other 6000 dollars for removing contaminated soil.
I recommend you give FILCO a call. I do not recall the price for clean, fill, and cap. They will give you your options.
Good luck!

JayDeeParticipantPLIA is Pollution Liability Insurance Agency
Like Aflac it is handy insurance to have before you have a release.

Genesee HillParticipantAnd, gasp, PLIA, ia a Washington State organization, with double gasp, Washington State government employees. Oh, the horror. LOL.
And, unlike AFLAC, PLIA does not exist to make a buck for the kindly private investors. Sorry, Mitt. Sorry, Rick Santorum. Sorry, Larry Kudlow and Rick Santelli….
But shock, of shocks, the PRIVATE SECTOR does the work in repairing damage. Not Christine Gregoire on a backhoe. But qualified, professional PRIVATE SECTOR workers.

jamjetsParticipantUsed filco a few years ago, on time and professional. About $300-400 I think for a pump, wash, fill and cap. No reason to look elsewhere IMO….

kootchmanMemberSave the tank… fill it with fuel oil and buy a diesel auto… VW or some such… and fill your car or truck. Save a buck a gallon on the road tax and get better mpg’s . Now you are REALLY saving money! Heck you could save enough in a year to buy Solyndra solar panels…. oh wait … no you can’t .. they shipped all the panels to a scrap yard…too expensive to store them… well, maybe a roof mounted windmill Now that strategy saves ya a ton of money … sorta don’t mention it too loud… someone will call your “nanny”.
Heating oil national price 3.26 gallon
Diesel Fuel 4.16 gallon

Genesee HillParticipantAs usual, kootch, you have the BEST advice. Legal or otherwise. Plus, those underground oil tanks leak. Big time. But why would you give a rip. It ain’t your oil tank….and you won’t get the ticket for using heating oil in a TDI Jetta.
Thanks anyway, pal. NOT.

kootchmanMemberJust trying to help… you can air pressure test it to see if it leaks. Cost about 25 bucks…I’ll help ya do it neighbor. …see the thanks I get for caring? Tough times y’ know.
February 25, 2012 at 5:00 am #748971
Genesee HillParticipantI filled my tank every April and it was still full on September first. I had NO IDEA. Get this kootch, NO idea the tank was leaking underground. Until it was pulled out. Then, it was obvious that it had been leaking for some time. Pinhole leak. What are you going to do kootch?. Dig a hole 25 feet underground, adjacent to the tank, drop you headfirst into the hole, watch, and see a few drops of oil seep out? Sometimes you claim that you are an expert on everything. Today, you have proved, otherwise. Believe me, you are not an underground oil tank expert. Guranteed. Kootch. Guaranteed. You are NOT an underground oil tank expert. Not a chance in hell.

dhgParticipantJust had my tank filled 2 weeks ago: $4.30 / gallon
No point in saving money by dodging state taxes there, Kootch
Call Budget Tank Removal. Nice guy. He’ll yank it out of the ground for $500. That’s a better option than letting it rust on your property.
February 26, 2012 at 10:50 am #748973
kootchmanMemberdhg.. no sense of humor.. $4.30 ? gruesome….. I guess ya need an advanced physics degree to screw a compressor gauge and pump air in a tank to see if the psi drops. Hope his tire never goes flat..might be a job for superman and two or three consulting engineers… a little levity GH.. a little levity…. a jab at the outrageous cost of petro products.

Genesee HillParticipantKootch: I might be proud of you if we both lived in Somalia. You know, no government, not a heckuva lot of taxes… But we don’t. So, I am not really too impressed with your tax dodging. Not now, and not ever. But, heck, go for it. It seems to be REALLY important to you…
February 27, 2012 at 3:39 am #748975
kootchmanMemberNot there yet… but getting closer every day.
February 27, 2012 at 4:58 am #748976
Genesee HillParticipantNever mind , kootch. I was just trying to offer my very recent experience in removing a leaking oil tank. Sorry everyone that I took on kootchman. As I have now figured out (stupid me) that is a no win proposition. Sorry all. And that is all.
February 27, 2012 at 8:04 pm #748977
owenParticipantI’ve had two heating oil tanks handled by Tank Wise, another local UST contractor. One was tank decommissioned in place and one was excavated. I’ve been really pleased in both cases and they worked with me to save money.

Genesee HillParticipantAll of my former oil burning neighbors had Kootchman Oil Tank Service take care of them. He filled their tanks with so much BS, they still had plenty left to roto-till into their gardens. They all recommend Kootchman Oil Tank Service for everything. The dude is an expert on everything; just ask him. LOL
