I am posting on behalf of my 17-year-old son. He is looking for work this summer to fill his time and make a little extra money.

Here’s a brief resume…

Skills:

– Passionate about interacting with various people over long periods of time.

– Able to work in a team and take directions, ensuring that a goal is completed.

– Can use a computer program or cash machine after simple instruction.

– Willing to participate fully in any training.

– Effective communication skills, able to demonstrate moderation and know when to defer to a peer or superior.

Experience:

Have worked once a week during Autumn, Winter and Spring seasons for three years at an AmeriCorps affiliation called City Year, in the program “Young Heroes”. The first two years of the three were with perfect attendance. While I was there, I was put into a large group where we learned how to work together as a team to achieve a goal efficiently and in a timely manner, mostly with manual labor. We worked on garden and forest work, pulling out invasive plants, planting and mulching various trees, painting murals for public spaces, helped to cater for large events, and general teamwork-building exercises. I’ve lead two classes at my high school. In one, I co-taught German with another student, and in the other I earned credits by helping two other peers lead a student-based self help group. I founded a video-game oriented school committee, as well as a parkour committee, where the participants were eligible for P.E. credits.

I was the first youth to be awarded the West Seattle Volunteer Community Service Award (2011).
