TreyseaLinMemberAny suggestions? I have in mind a therapeutic/deep tissue massage by someone who know the body well. I have some issues including sciatica, arthritis in my neck, and what a former therapist called a “rock garden” in my back/shoulders. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!

JanSParticipantpaying personally or billing to insurance?
June 12, 2012 at 6:58 am #760647
DBurnsParticipantEmanuel Ezenzu at LaVida. He is amazing and totally in tune with your needs on the first try -and consistently every time since. Honestly I swear – run don’t walk on this advice. You can book on line now. If it’s your first time there it’s $39.95!!! You’ll be hooked!

JanSParticipantif billed to insurance, just remember that La Vida doesn’t accept it, I think. You’d also need a doc’s referral. I accept just about all insurances except Regence..

TreyseaLinMemberThanks DBurns! JanS, Regence is what I have. May I ask why it’s not accepted? Is it a bad plan? This is the first time I’ve ever paid privately for insurance.

JanSParticipantno…their provider lists have been closed for years. They aren’t allowing any more massage therapists to join. So I can’t accept them. Not that I haven’t tried to sign on. They figure there are enough massage therapists in the area who are already providers, I suppose. So, check you member benefits. I would guess you have massage coverage, and would only have a small copay. Call them and ask…and then get a doc’s referral/prescription if you can. The prescription will have to say massage, how many, and give a diagnosis code, since massage therapists are not allowed by law to diagnose. We can’t bill your insurance without a diagnosis code:) Hope that helps. Good luck finding someone. I know a few in the area that I refer Regence people to when they call me, so you might have to call around. Or the Regence website should have a providers list online.

squareeyesParticipantJen and Stephanie at Mean Girls Massage in Burien http://meangirlsmassage.com/ are the absolute best. Both do deep tissue therapeutic massage. Stephanie also does intraoral if needed (for TMJ type issues) and cupping.
I just checked their site and what they say about Regence is “If you have out-of-network benefits we can also bill Regence plans.”

StringCheeseParticipantI second the Mean Girls Massage recommendation. Jen is the only person I’ve found that can really work on the rocks in my shoulders!

squareeyesParticipantIf you want to stay in West Seattle, I also highly recommend Dianne Shockley at M3 Bodyworks on California. She also does wonderful deep tissue massage. Per their website she also takes Regence.

Michael WaldoParticipantI second the recommendation for Stephanie and Jan at Mean Girls Massage. “WE beat you up for your own good” is their motto.

m3bodyworksMemberHey TreyseaLin –
M3 Bodyworks has 17 therapists and I think we have 15 now that take Regence. Most offer Deep Tissue and Treatment for injuries. We can work with your doctor on a treatment plan that is now required by your insurance. You can call the office to get more information or if you need a recommendation on who you should see that would best meet your needs.
We have 24/7 Online Scheduling, open 7 days a week, 10 AM – 10 PM. We are a very long time WSB Sponsor as well.
I hope you find what you need.

They also have online scheduling and are open 7 days a week!
I’ve seen Jen for years and trust anyone she and Stephanie would have join their practice!
Check them out at

TreyseaLinMemberThanks everyone for your recommendations! Looks like there are a lot of choices out there!

2 Much WhineParticipantI can do massages badly – forget the others – they’re all professionals. If you want a truly bad massage I’m your guy. . . . no formal (or informal) training and my hands get tired after a minute or two so I just quit and get a beer. My wife tells me I give massages badly so I really think I’m qualified to meet your “kneads.” Plus I’m really busy surfing the blog so I’m “knot” sure I could “squeeze” you into my busy schedule.

BLhappypetsParticipantAbsolutely, enthusiastically recommend Mean Girls Massage, worth the drive to Burien!
I have only seen Stephanie in my days, but I hear Jen and the other therapists are amazing as well. Stephanie helped me to recover from a back injury about 5 years back, and I have been a client off and on ever since. Simply the best! I used to work in the spa industry, and have had several practitioners, but she is the best. Ever.
