aaParticipantSo sad yet not surprised to see that just when the city bans plastic bags at grocery stores, Metropolitan Market comes out with their own plastic bags! Very dissapointing when there are so many options. There is no need for these bags except that MM wanted to see their name on yet another product! Yes…they will tell you its ok because its recycled plastic. how thoughtful of them!

brewParticipantYou still have a CHOICE on whether to use them or not. Or, are you one of those that prefer to make choices for others?

JanSParticipantthose are great bags…I have 2. I sometimes go to the store for little stuff, and don’t need a huge bag to carry it in. These work perfectly. To each his own, I say.

JanSParticipantnew bags…they’re smaller than the other one’s they have. These cost 20 cents each

WSBKeymasterThey are reusable. We reported on these on the main page a week or so ago. Bought one ourselves (waiting in the pantry now for another shopping trip)… easier to store than the bulkier bags. The city did NOT ban bags made from the thicker plastic, so the expectation is that department stores (Target?) et al will use bags like these. – TR

DBPMemberThese thicker bags might be a good thing, but they might actually be worse than the old system. It all depends on whether most people end up throwing them out or reusing them, as did Citizens Tracy and Jan.
Old habits being hard to break, I suspect that most people will just toss them. Hope I’m wrong.

P.S. If you recycle these thicker bags, it’s not much better than tossing them, since resources are still being consumed unnecessarily. The most earth-friendly solution is still a resuable bag (canvas, if possible) or basket.

KatherineLParticipantI think a reusable, washable canvas bag is more practical as well as more earth friendly. These plastic bags may be heavier plastic, but they still look like a load of cat food would take the bottom out.

JanSParticipantthe joy of these bag? If you don’t like them, you don’t have to use them. It’s good to know that as adults we have choices, isn’t it? :)
