JanSParticipantI’m trying to picture her in a debate with Joe Biden…:o\
August 29, 2008 at 5:44 pm #636171
charlabobParticipantI think Romney would have been a great choice — a proved loser who never saw a lie he couldn’t tell. :-)
JV, you’re right–I am having too much fun with this announcement — I don’t think we should be smug but I certainly don’t think we should panic. Sometimes a fish is just a fish.
Just listening to some allegedly democratic woman who thinks Palin will make a difference in her vote. Whew — she just announced that “Of course I’ll vote for Obama — I’m not insane.”
They find one person and highlight. I haven’t seen an equivalent level of attention paid to the Obamacans — have you? Susan Eisenhower — Lincoln Chaffee.
Remember, corporate media are, above all *corporate*. Their bias toward repugs shouldn’t be surprising.

kiridaParticipantI’m really excited for Saturday Night Live. I hope they bring Tina Fey back to act as Palin.
August 29, 2008 at 5:51 pm #636173
AnonymousInactivekirida – Perfect!!!!
August 29, 2008 at 5:59 pm #636174
addParticipantkirida – too funny! this morning I was telling my husband about the pick and when he asked what she looked like I said “kinda like Tina Fey” !!
August 29, 2008 at 5:59 pm #636175
ZenguyParticipantEven if you want to pander and pick a woman, is this the most qualified woman? How about Kay Bailey-Huchison or Christine Todd Whitman, both smart capable women.
I too can barely wait for the debates. I do not think we will see much of her for a while, she will be cramming on foreign policy 101.

WSMomParticipantI’m still trying to imagine how a mom with a 4 month old special needs baby is going to have time to run for Vice President. New babies need tremendous energy and attention from both mom and dad, I can only imagine being a parent of a downs baby is a full time job.
I really don’t get it. She’s only been a gov for a little over a year and before that a mayor of a Alaskan town who’s name I’ve never heard of. Why would the Republican Party choose her to be the running mate of a really old, not particularly healthy presidential candidate? At least most of us know who Romney is, or even Christine Todd Whitman, but I’ve never even heard of this woman before. I’d love to see a woman president, but I’d hope she would have a resume that made sense. Journalism degree from Univ. of Idaho???
August 29, 2008 at 8:06 pm #636178
KenParticipantWe are doooomed
There goes Alaska’s 3 electoral votes!
oh wait.
We only had a really long shot at those.
Never mind.
So it looks like any young earth creationist, gay bashing, Fundy will buy the radical theocrat wing of the Republican party according to McBush.
August 29, 2008 at 8:11 pm #636179
AnonymousInactiveI really know nothing about her either.
The debates will be interesting, I’m thinking with a journalism degree, she can write a pretty decent speech, right??
At least she won’t have to plagiarize and make up a life history such as Biden resorted to in ’88.
August 29, 2008 at 8:15 pm #636180
JoBParticipantLet’s see.. a Biden/Palin debate…
I am afraid i can’t visualize it.. nor i think can anyone else.. so if there is something called a debate for either presidents or vps, it is going to have to be staged entertainment…
oh yeah.. like they did for little George..
August 29, 2008 at 8:22 pm #636181
HPMemberwsmom as a mom i second that all the way she has 4 children at home, one an infant with extra needs, does she have a different clock with more than 24 hours in a day because she will need it
August 29, 2008 at 8:28 pm #636182
charlabobParticipantWrong — debates are not speeches and a degree in journalism doesn’t mean one can write either a speech or respond logically in a debate. One possible indication of her intellect: she employs the GWB pronunciation of nuclear (nucular). Perhaps it is contagious.
The one line description of Biden’s “plagiarism” of is a distortion to say the least — he gave, without attribution, a speech he had frequently attributed to Kinnock. I suspect even the freepers know enough to stay away from that one.
This is simply an attempt to re-capture the extreme right wing of the party. Richard Viguerie fell for it so it must have worked.
August 29, 2008 at 8:31 pm #636183
GenHillOneParticipantLOL, Charla, I thought I heard that too, but said, “nah, couldn’t have” –
August 29, 2008 at 8:55 pm #636184
ZenguyParticipantHere is an article that outlines her rise to fame. http://tinyurl.com/6z5wxh
I guess she is the only pro life Republican woman they could find and they only had to go to Alaska…wow!
August 29, 2008 at 9:16 pm #636185
SueParticipantCH, that should be submitted to failblog.org
August 29, 2008 at 9:28 pm #636186
AnonymousInactivecharla – You forgot to mention the OTHER time Biden plagiarized. In law school, on a law review paper.
Seems to be a pattern.
August 29, 2008 at 9:36 pm #636187
JoBParticipantNew Resident..
I bet you wish plagerism was the only charge that could be laid at McCain’s feet…
in roughly similar political careers…
keep digging:)
August 29, 2008 at 9:41 pm #636188
AnonymousInactiveNo, not really JoB. But I enjoy your tactics of ignoring the issue and trying to put the focus back to how awful McCain is believed to be.
Similar to how you responded to Tonya, I noticed.
August 29, 2008 at 9:48 pm #636189
charlabobParticipantNo, NR–I was responding to your specific charge. The link discussed both occurrences.
I would strognly suggest you not accuse folks on “the other side” of failing to respond to direct questions.
For example, you completely ignored my reasons for debunking your notion that a ba degree in journalism would create a good speechwriter or debater. And that’s only the most recent example. As Jan said, wrt another subject, I don’t think you want to go there.
August 29, 2008 at 10:05 pm #636190
WSBKeymasterThis thread was going well till the last few posts. Please behave, things have been fairly mellow for days now.
A post’er above has a good point. So many Republican women with gravitas. Although I really do think there is a very specific anti-establishment point being made here. I bet that McCain made the decision completely on his own, contrary to advice, and said the heck with you all, this gal is close to what I’m all about, and I’m going with her.
Geraldine Ferraro was a kind of left-field choice in ’84 too (pun not intended).
August 29, 2008 at 10:05 pm #636191
AnonymousInactiveNot sure I understand where “strong suggestions” and silent threats (“I don’t think you want to go there”) are coming from.
I didn’t respond to your correction that a good speech writer does not make a good debater, because it’s true. I didn’t realize that we are required to acknowledge every single comment someone makes on this forum.
Now, a direct question not being responded to, or changing of the subject, implies one does not have the answer (and, I agree, even if that is the case, I, too, would appreciate admittance of that). When did I not respond to a direct question from you, charla?
August 29, 2008 at 10:09 pm #636192
CaitParticipantNice ZING, JoB! I agree indeed. Sounds like it’s going to be a real circus at the Republican Convention. I’ll be waiting with my popcorn, watching the disaster unfold. *sigh*

Yep, that’s what I thought as I watched her speech. If her reputation of being a reformer holds up, I think we can see that McCain’s really going to be serious about being a reformer himself.

I’m not happy about her “let’s expose students to all theories” waffling re: creationism in the schools. Nor her opposition to gay marriage. However, McCain has already been on record as being a federalist WRT gay marriage – IOW he’s against that Constitutional amendment that some theocons wish for. And she never did anything in support of creationism in the schools as governor

So, I’m willing to be impressed by her. She’s certainly going to be a fighter. :)
August 29, 2008 at 10:26 pm #636194
JennyMemberBTW, she has more experience as an EXECUTIVE than any of the other 3 on the tickets.
(I still wish McCain had picked Romney. Former innovative governor, and a venture capitalist. I’m still holding out hope for Mitt for SecTreas, and Joe Lieberman as SecDef.)
