So when are you cooking New Mexican? I will make myself availble…lol. I know that a bowl of water with bread makes that nice crunch on the crust too.

Well, I’m gonna try to make some chipotle-sugared nuts this week…I would be happy to share, if they turn out okay. Absolutely amazing food in NM–nothing like what you get here and my favorite above all.

    Jo…lots of common ground. I’m only a twit 6% of the time…;-)

True their in not much TexMex or in you case NewMexMex in this area. Gallerias on capitol hill is about the closest…it is making me hungry now.

Since people keeping mentioning Abbondanza, I have to throw in my two cents. I desperately want to like the place, but each time I’ve been there (about 4 or 5 times) I leave feeling disappointed. The pizza always arrives underdone and the toppings are nothing to rave about.

The other thing I just can’t get over is the atmosphere. There’s never any music playing even though I can see the stereo and speakers sitting right there. It just feels depressing (even though it can be packed). I’d love to support a family owned restaurant with a lot of potential, but there just aren’t enough positives about the place to make it worthwhile.

If you’re in the mood for truly authentic Italian style pizza Via Tribunali just opend in Georgetown (across from All City Coffee). It’s well worth driving the few extra miles.

Via Tribunali is very good, but I was trying to keep it West Seattle for obvious reasons. I think the reason they never turn the stereo on is most of the people that work there and many of the patrons too are deaf. I have been to Scicily and this is more like what you would get there.

Zenguy – thanks for pointing that out. I assumed the owner was deaf (having seen him working there), but a little music sure would help the atomosphere for the rest of us. If not having music is more authentic, why have the stereo and speakers in there at all. That being said, it’s the pizza that’s most lacking IMO.

    I like Gallerias, Zenguy.

I also like Chevy’s, though I know it’s a chain and CJ might give me a stern talking-to for going to a chain. ;-) At least it’s not Applebee’s.

Also I like the Santa Fe Cafe, in Phinney by the zoo. It’s the closest I’ve found here to what I loved in Santa Fe. (posole, thick thick flour tortillas, green chiles, stacked-not-rolled enchiladas, blue corn tortillas, etc.) I think they claim to bring their chiles in from NM.

Sorry for the threadjack into foodgeekitude.

Santa Fe Cafe is great. I go there (or to the market next door) every Wednesday morning.

Oh, and to keep it on topic, next time I go to BPP, I’ll pick up a pizza from Abbondanza. They’re right by each other, right?

Damn. Now I wish I wasn’t gone all weekend.

Another thing I love about Abbondanza – you can get your pizza and a bottle of wine to go. One stop shopping!

    Kayliegh…

now where have i heard the phrase 6% solution? hmmm or was that 7% ?????

it’s a mystery to me…. but it was said to make Sherlock very wise…

ok.. I confess, i have been watching the Simpson’s movie with hubby and it went to my head:(

I do have a saving grace.. the night you mentioned New Mexico cooking i made a beef based pasole dish with hominy and black and red beans…

first time i had tried the beef base…

villagegreen.. one of the things i like best about the place is the quiet… it is so restful to just go in and enjoy the pizza. ours has always been really good.. tho on a bad weekend night once their tomato/basil/mozzarella salad wasn’t so hot… we always go midweek after the dinner rush.. that helps.

Luciano’s is our fav pizza place. House salad (add feta). Pepperoni and mushroom pizza (also cheese pizza) is great (not a big fan of their 4 cheese pizza, though). Other dishes adequate. Small joint, so they don’t have a lot of drivers, but they are always friendly and helpful. And you can pop by and get a slice.

I won’t be eating at Luciano’s for a different reason: several days ago I witnessed a Luciano’s delivery van as a tire skipped over the bulb-out (designed and installed to slow traffic) at Admiral and Waite St. (five blocks from the restaurant) and noticed the driver was on his cellphone. I called the restaurant to complain to the manager about the reckless driving and was told he had “just left”-hmmm. I left a message to return my phone call but he never did… P.S. I’ve walked in twice for a slice and was not impressed.
