bigmarkMemberWe’d like to put our 2.5 year old daughter in a part-time preschool as soon as we can. I know that this topic has been brought up before, but I’d just like to ask again for people’s feedback and recommendations. Ideally looking for something walking distance from Belvidere and Manning, as her grandparents, who are her primary caregivers, will most likely need to walk to pick her up. (I’d consider walking distance to be ~Admiral Junction to ~Alaska Junction.) We’re looking for something 2-3 days per week, not full-time daycare programs. I know that several that we’ve seen won’t take kids until they are three, and we’ll look into those, but anything that takes 2.5 year olds would be great. I’ve also noticed that there are several preschools in local churches. Does anyone know how “religious” these are?
As usual from this great resource, I appreciate any feedback.

MaterMemberI used to live in that neighborhood and I know that the Admiral co-op is in a church over there. Although I know that they are usually full with a wait list possibly. The co-ops run out of churches but have no affiliation with them. Here is a link to learn more about co-op: http://sites.google.com/a/southseattle.edu/homelife/ It’s a good affordable option. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

insomniacMemberI think your child must be age 3 to start at Bloom Preschool, but we highly recommend this school. Since they are brand new, they still have openings in Tues/Thur & Mon/Wed/Fri classes. Attendance is from 9-12, it’s located in Admiral district across from Metropolitan Market, and one of the teachers is a kindergarten teacher. It’s wonderful!

bigmarkMemberThanks for the suggestions. We’ll put them on the list to look into. As for the co-op programs, I like the idea but my wife and I both work full-time and wouldn’t be able to work at the school. My wife’s parents (our daughter’s primary caregivers) don’t speak English and wouldn’t be comfortable doing this.
Any more feedback? Thanks again.

The teachers are incredibly nice and competent people, the program is great, and the classrooms are fun and engaging. My kids loved it.
It is located in the lower level of a church, but you’d never know it because you enter through a side door and there’s no religious component of any sort to the program.

manolitaParticipantCometa Playschool in a Spanish Language preschool in the Admiral District (California Ave @ Hanford). Our teachers are native Spanish speakers and are trained in Early Childhood education. They are also moms to young children, so they are understanding, patient and fun. Classes are Monday-Thursday 9:30am to 1pm, and the nice thing about it is that you can choose and pick the days that work for your family. Our curriculum not only allows children to learn a second language but also integrates music and visual arts as part of their daily routine. For more information visit http://www.cometaseattle.com

daisyMemberCheck out Learning Ladder at Hiawatha Community Center through Parks and Rec. Its reasonably priced and a great program- it is for 3 years and up however. Our daughter has gone there for over a year and she loves it.

insomniacMemberCometa seems like a lovely school. Though we love our current preschool, the bilingual exposure is invaluable for the little ones.

luckymom30ParticipantWe had a great experience at SSCC at Lincoln Park, the families were so warm and welcoming and she aquired many long-term friendships.

BattyMemberWe love Cometa Playschool!! My son has been there since January 2009 and he is always excited to go to preschool. The program is very well rounded and they take a creative approach to teaching Numbers, the Alphabet, Spanish, Music/Dancing, Arts and Crafts, etc. I love hearing about his day – the new songs that he learns, counting from 1 to 10 in Spanish, the incredible craft projects he brings home, etc. Manuela and her assistant (Yohanna) are excellent teachers and it’s a warm/nurturing environment – I’m glad that I found such a wonderful place!
