JoBParticipantBikefor1…
i love the sylvia Beach Hotel. It is a hundred years old building overlooking Nye Beach which was the original tourist destination in Newport.
There are a lot of shops and eating places within a few blocks.. a great beach… a playhouse.. an art gallery.. and bookstores.. and that’s before you hop on the local bus or take the car to the waterfront:)
The Syliva Beach Hotel isn’t for everyone… but if you like quirky you can even sleep in the Poe room which has a pendulum suspended over the bed.
The luxury rooms like the Agatha Christie which has a fireplace and a deck are incredibly roomy and comfortable… the smaller rooms are bedroom sized but still comfortable.
What draws me is the library on the 3rd floor… a spacious room full of comfy chairs and couches and readers… you can sit with a book and your cup of tea.. or coffee… next to the window overlooking the ocean and ponder the words.. or the universe…
What draws others is the food. Breakfast is included and it is very well done.. but dinner is the main draw. The menu is posted each morning and you make reservations if you want a seat…
Meals are served at larger tables so conversation becomes as lively as the food…
If you are a reader or a thinker and think a stay without television and anything but the quietest electronics intriguing or are a history buff or appreciate the really quirky or…. :))))
i can’t recommend it enough…
did i say i really like that place?

JoBParticipantCheriBerri…
Everyone has to do Vegas at least once..
and a honeymoon is as good a time as any:)
I’m wishing you a lifetime for weekend trips to all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer…
and thanking your for this thread… so many great ideas. In fact, i can thank you for an enjoyable friday..
after reading all of this i spent the day exploring old haunts around Vancouver, Washington instead of just hitting the freeway to head back home… The dogs and i had a great day.
There is so much in life to discover if you just take the time to get off the freeway…

DunnoParticipantEnjoy life off the Freeway!
Good one JoB! Never heard that one, but I’m sure
there’s a sticker somewhere. A great thread for memories and daydreamin.

JoBParticipantdunno..
i think they call it life in the slow lane…
William Least Moon (i don’t think i got his name right) called them Blue Hiways…
you just never know what you will find following obscure signs and interesting sounding road names.

AnonymousInactiveThe Treehouse Treeresort looks pretty cool – too. Haven’t been there, but the folks we bought our house from installed a fire pole / climbing rope instead of stairs off our deck, and were inspired by this place:

Looks like this place is in extreme southwest Oregon, east of the Redwood Highway (199) between Grants Pass and Crescent City. Probably more of a drive than you may want, but you could always go down the coast!

B-squaredParticipantKalaloch on the ocean. thay have some cabins on the cliff that are a bit rustic. might see some grey whale migrating this time of year. even some of the lodged or cabins on Lake Quinalt may be sufficiently romantic.
Lonesome cove resort on San juan Island is very nice too.
