changingtimesMemberi was doing the same thing earlier this month….look on craigslist at oregan coast rentals..some of them are really inexpensive!!!
March 12, 2009 at 4:10 am #660191
CaitParticipantCheri! You’ve gotta do Cannon Beach! We camp, but that’s not very honeymoon-y. I know there are a few cute B&Bs… I would check it out. And if you do, go to Doogers! It’s an Oregon tradition!

JoBParticipantColumbia River Riverside Lodge in Stevenson Washington…
http://www.cgriversidelodge.com/
It is located right on the river.. with wind surfers and barge traffic outside your door.. and the dock for the paddlewheeler that stops in carson.. and walking trails.. and the coolest wind sculpture… and maybe a hot tub on your deck…
The Stevenson Grill on main street has wonderful food .. as does the bakery in town… and the entire town is within easy (6 blocks max) walking distance…
you are a half day trip from Mt Hood or Mt Adams if you want mountains… and in the spring the hike to dog mountain less than a half hour east is incredible.
There is the new museum in the Dalles that is really very good… the Columbia Discovery Center
http://www.el.com/to/thedalles/
Hood River has better shops.. catering to the after ski and windsurfing crowd..
http://www.el.com/to/hoodriver/
if the train is running.. a trip to Clarkdale and beer in the brewpub is fun.. and you get a front row seat to one of the best views of Mt Hood ever.
The scenic hiway across the gorge has 7 waterfalls and the Multnomah Lodge for a very classy lunch..
http://trips.stateoforegon.com/multnomah_falls/
Carson Hot springs is less than 20 minutes from your room and has both soaking baths and massage. The water there is incredible…
http://www.carsonhotspringresort.com/
I haven’t been since they built the new building and i was told the baths had moved to the new bathhouse.. though the website doesn’t say so…
the soak alone at $20 is a soak and a wrap and a nap… and the massage for two specials are really good…
they also have a “new” hotel that i have never stayed at.. but am told is nice if the lodge is a bit too much… but i would go for the Riverside lodge if you can… and for the riverfront suite with it’s own hot-tub.
Another idea is the hotel on the pier in Astoria… the cannery pier hotel…
http://www.cannerypierhotel.com/
Astoria is a deep water river town and has a ton of antiques and historic sites.. and downtown has good to great food and is completely walkable…
from there access to the longview penninsula is less than an hour north… if you go to the end:)
and Seaside is less than an hour to the south…
Longview is an old fashioned beach town… there is a boardwalk that is walkable year round and you can drive onto the beach for a bonfire and great sunsets.
I also love the Shelburne Inn.. which is another story and honeymoon destination:)
http://www.theshelburneinn.com/
Seaside is a kitschy slightly more upscale beach town with good shops and good restaurants..
and south of that is Cannon Beach.. sort of an upscale artists community on the beach with Ecola State Park.. incredible headlands, great beaches and if you go to the end of the road.. sunset beach lives up to it’s name and then some..
any B&b in Ashland, Or
it’s a wonderful little town.. there is a hot springs just out of town.. and the play is the thing there… it’s another very walkable town with an incredible park, great restaurants and interesting shops… very romantic…
one of our my most romantic weekends ever played there:)
http://www.ashlandchamber.com/
I have always wanted to stay at the Ashland Springs Hotel downtown.. it has been renovated and the lobby was incredible…
they have romance packages…
and that’s just the first three that come to mind…
if you let me know when and what you think you might be looking for I can probably do better.. or even where you want to go and i can probably give you some help figuring out where to stay…
LOL.. i got so caught up in my memories that i forget to tell you to have an incredible honeymoon.. no matter where you go.
i spent my first one in a tent on the oregon coast and have never forgotten it… the man was unfortunately not up to the honeymoon:(
but hubby and i have been married nearly 18 years now and our honeymoon was spent sick on the washington coast… i think it’s what you both put into the marriage that counts… We have had many incredibly romantic weekends since :)

CaitParticipantDANG! Jo, you get around! ;-)
Harrison Hot Springs and the Sol Duc Hot Springs are also fun, have lodges, and are close.
March 12, 2009 at 4:29 am #660194
JoBParticipantcait…
i do:)
timberline lodge with spiked hot chocolate and sunrise… :))))))
or swimming in the pool while the flakes fall…
so many good memories.
March 12, 2009 at 4:34 am #660195
CheriBerriMemberwow! thanks for all the suggestions we will definatly look into them!!
March 12, 2009 at 4:36 am #660196
CaitParticipantI’m planning a 5 year anniversary trip, so I’m usin’ these too. Good luck Cheri! Can’t wait to see what ya’ll come up with :)
March 12, 2009 at 4:38 am #660197
jMemberI think Job may be referring to Long Beach, not Longview. Longview would not be a place where you’d want to honeymoon, unless you have a thing for Weyerhaeuser and meth. :)
Cannon Beach is such a romantic little beach town. We’ve had friends honeymoon at the Stephanie Inn. I know that they have a Honeymoon special, but I have no idea what that may include.
My husband and I celebrated our Honeymoon at the Bonneville Hotsprings. They are just about 30 minutes down the gorge from Portland. We had a room with our own spring water hot tub. It was incredibly relaxing. You are very close to Hood River, which is the cutest little town and there are many options for hiking.
Depending on what type of honeymoon you want, McMenamins has many cheap and AWESOME hotels in Oregon. Depending on what you like, they can be a one stop shop. We got married at McMenamins Edgefield (aka Disneyland for the wine/beer drinker) so we try to make reservations on our anniversary. They have everything from a wineries, breweries, spas, wading pools, movie theaters, romantic rooms, golf, disc golf and many restaurants. It’s a place where I can stay for days and never get bored.
I have no doubt that you will find a perfect place that will fit everything you desire! Good Luck!
March 12, 2009 at 4:56 am #660198
JoBParticipantj..
you are right.. long beach… not longview…
my favorite restaurant of all time… the Ark in Nahcotta… on the long beach peninsula… closed :(((
the facility at Bonneville Hot Springs is incredible with a wonderful pool… I was afraid i would be disappointed after waiting nearly a decade while he built that thing.. but i wasn’t.
i heard that great sandwich shop in bonneville closed though…
i still like the water better at carson. your skin feels so smooth when you get out… in spite of the fact that the spa at Bonnevilee is much more elegant…
And you are so right about the McMenamins.. i like the one in yamhill county best.. it has a hot tub on the roof… but the one at Edgefield is equally romantic and so close to the old hi-way at troutdale… which has turned into a great little town.
I always though dinner at Tads just outside troutdale was romantic.. but that could have to do more with my memories than the place.. though you can’t beat the chicken and dumplings:)
when we do the beach we go to Newport.. just because… stayed last time at the Stephanie Inn… if you are a reader that place is more than romantic… but if not i still like the Embarcadaro with the clanking of masts at night and the easy walk to old town newport…
i could go on all night but i am going to get very jealous of anyone going any of those places so i think i will take myself off to sweet sweet dreams. i have been dreaming lately and i can think of lots of romantic places to go in my sleep:)

celeste17ParticipantMakes me wish I was going on a honeymoon. All these places sound wonderful. Can I be a stowaway?
March 12, 2009 at 6:38 am #660200
KevinParticipantWe spent our honeymoon in Port Townsend. Then we went back for our 5th anniversary.
.
We stayed at the Palace Hotel in the “Madam’s” room. The hotel has a “colorful” history from many years ago. All of the rooms are different.
.
We also spent one of our nights at a bed-n-breakfast in the carriage house of a large mansion. There are LOTS of other choices.
.
You can also stay at the motel where one of the scenes from an Officer and a Gentleman was filmed. That particular scene was kind of creepy though.
.
Lots of antique stores, bars with great music, and nice restaurants.
.
You would not be disappointed.
.
Another lovely choice which we have done is to take a Kenmore Air sea plane right out of Lake Union and fly to one of the San Juan Islands. Kenmore Air even has package deals with many of the hotels up there. About a 45 minute ride each way. Taking off and landing on the water is a real thrill!
.
Good luck wherever you decide to stay.

JoBParticipantKevin..
or the plane into Victoria harbor… people think first of the Empress but most of the B&Bs are pretty romantic. that’s another good walking town…
We were in Port Townsend a month or so ago and it has really developed into a nice little town.. it’s on our list now.
there are so many wonderful places.
I just discovered Langley and think i would love to spend some time there. gray whale season is just starting and they feed nearby…
March 12, 2009 at 5:00 pm #660203
RainyDay1235MemberWe spent our Honeymoon driving through Canada up to BANFF. Gorgeous! And Spring would be perfect. Stayed in B&Bs along the way, visited Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, hot springs…
March 13, 2009 at 11:51 am #660204
DunnoParticipantWhistler/Blackhome, in BC, just a 4 1/2 hour drive from here. So much to do besides skiing. I know my wife loves the shopping!
Place is huge and good deals abound! Just look at
Seattle Times ads. Winter Olympic come there in one year. 1000’s of rooms there.
I love the Oregon coast! Sol Duc and Harrison
excellent spots. Washinton coast, Kalaloch and
Lake Quinault lodges very romantic. Don’t forget
Victoria BC too! Happy HM!

RainyDay1235MemberBe sure to stop by Greenbank Farm’s “Whidbey Pies Cafe” on the way south to Langley – their strawberry rhubarb pie is to die for!!
March 14, 2009 at 12:17 am #660208
CheriBerriMemberNO no no Thank you JoB for giving such great info!! its giving me lots of ideas and i really appreciate it !!
March 14, 2009 at 2:07 am #660209
JoBParticipantthere are so many wonderful places to go… i have been lucky to live in the pacific northwest on and off most of my life. there are few places i have been only once.. but i am still discovering places i haven’t been…
like the “sunshine coast” in canada… just west of Vancouver.
i can’t recommend it, but i am intrigued…
and i would do the ferry to anchorage in a heartbeat… you don’t have to go all the way to enjoy it…
but it might not be as private as some honeymooners would wish:)

Bikefor1MemberI was at Newport in Feb and heard about this place:
Sylvia Beach Hotel
267 N.W. Cliff Street
Newport, Oregon
http://www.sylviabeachhotel.com
888/795-8422
“Farther south, the literary-themed Sylvia Beach Hotel, on an empty strip of Nye Beach, is the perfect place for a quiet tryst. None of the 22 rooms has a phone or television, and each is named after a writer and decorated to evoke his or her works and life…”
March 22, 2009 at 2:37 pm #660211
DunnoParticipantI love all these idea’s. Just reading them has put me there. Was talking to someone who told me
they love going to LaPush, on the far NW Washington coast. I just got back from skiing in
Utah and a person I met from Boston was just nuts about the Olympic Mountain Loop. There’s also the
North Cascade Loop. Another one of my fav’s within 5 or so hours is Sunriver, at Bend Oregon.
When I was a little shaver, used to go to Yahats with family on the mid Oregon coast. Cozy cabins and located
in a great spot for exploring the coast north and south. Can we all come with you? lol Let us know where you go!
March 22, 2009 at 2:42 pm #660212
CheriBerriMemberWell my fiance really wanted to go to las vegas. So we are going to stay at the Paris hotel. Not as secluded as i would have liked but hey they have a spa package lol
March 22, 2009 at 2:47 pm #660213
DunnoParticipantMy sister was just there and had a great time!
Look for screamin deals. I’m sure many of the readers here have great Idea’s in Vegas. I don’t gamble, but the entertainment there is more than enough! When you going?
