JoBParticipantI am struggling to find a local organic dairy products producer anyplace other than the sunday market.. which for some reason just doesn’t work well for me.. we aren’t that consistent about using dairy products…
and a local egg producer would be good too…
i try to buy locally produced (northern oregon and southern washington) Organic Valley milk.. but would love some better options.
milk? yogurt? eggs? cottage cheese?
i would love suggestions from other conscientious shoppers…
what do you buy, where do you buy it and why?

SueParticipantJoanne, when I was drinking milk I always bought from Golden Glen Creamery which is up north in Bow. They sell their milk/cream in PCC and Thriftway. It is not organic, but local and the most amazing milk I’ve ever had. Comes in glass bottles (you pay a deposit on them and return them). http://www.goldenglencreamery.com/index.htm
Another place you could check is the Pike Place Market Creamery. I’ve never personally been there, but I’ve heard good things about them and the products they carry. Here’s an article I found about them online, which also has their contact info: http://naturalfoodsmerchandiser.com/tabid/66/itemid/3100/Store-of-the-Month-Pike-Place-Market-Creamery-tas.aspx

KatherineLParticipantJoB, your best option for organic and local anything is PCC. That’s their main focus. If you don’t want to shop there for some reason, call and ask to talk to whoever handles their dairy products. They should have an excellent idea of what’s available in the area.

JoBParticipantKatherineL
i do occassionally shop at PCC… i don’t do the bulk of my shopping there because they are more expensive for many of the items i buy..
but i stop by at least a couple of times a month to visit the real change vendor and buy a paper and i generally go into the store while i am there. i admit i have never tracked down someone to talk about their organic dairy products… i will.
Sue..
i care more about the intent of organic than the label. often the certification process is too costly for small producers. i will check them out.
