JeraldParticipantAnother thread mentioned Jance’s character J.P. Beaumont, which made me wonder. What other authors/characters have books set in or around West Seattle? I think Earl Emerson might, I know he talks about Chinatown a lot and other parts of Seattle.
I love reading fiction set in my own true place. Any suggestions?

BonnieParticipantI don’t have any suggestions but I love reading fiction set in Seattle/West Seattle too. No suggestions though but if someone suggests anything I’ll head to the library and get it!

TJMemberI might have replied in the wrong place. Try Ridley Pearson. Lee Childs also mentions Seattle in a peripheral way in some of his books.

KatherineLParticipantSeattle Public Library has a list of mysteries set in Seattle: http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=collection_
readinglists_category_detail&cid=1157064974812
If you can’t get all the URL, it’s at their website, Collection tab, Readers’ Corner, Staff-Created Reading Lists, Adults, Genre Fiction, Seattle.
Most of them are set downtown, although J.P. Beaumont’s grandmother lived in Ballard. I don’t recall any set in the wilds of West Seattle. I do note that former SPD Officer Clausen has a third book out that I’ve got to put a hold on immediately. :-)

JanSParticipantFunny thing…my sister got me hooked on JA Jance and her detective Beaumont, and she had never been to Seattle, had lived on the east coast all her life. I love when authors get it right, unlike in the movies when they start driving to one place and end up someplace where it’s impossible to get there from the starting point…

JenVMemberTobias Wolff (This Boy’s Life) lived briefly in a boarding house in West Seattle when he was younger, although I don’t think that plays a prominant part in any of his stories.

TheVelvetBulldogMemberCheck out the Jake Rossiter series by Curt Colbert. Hard-boiled, noir-style detective stories set in post-WWII Seattle. I think he at least visits WS, but regardless, they’re great reads!

JohnMMemberIn one of JA Jance books, there was some “action” at the bottom of Boeing Hill, across from the 1st S bridge.

AnonymousInactiveNot a book, but a friend of mine (who lives in a different state) just called to tell me that a movie, 88 minutes think, is set in Seattle.
Like I said, he doesn’t actually live here, so not sure how accurate it is.

KenParticipant“Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates”
Tom Robbins
Much of it is set in Seattle though with Robbins that is not really clear some of the time.
Also “Half Asleep In Frog Pajamas” uses Ballard landmarks and many Seattle locations.
He was living in Ballard and South Bend WA when he started writing
“Another Roadside Attraction”
There are probably a dozen SF writers near here but their stuff is not set in Seattle :)
