Let’s help keep Hempfest going even when our weather does not cooperate. Attendees spend a lot of money in the local economy and the cause is worthwhile.

    Ken,

Do you know of a safe place to, um, leave my donation? I would hate for it to fall into the wrong hands…consenting adults only of course!

    Ken..

    is hempfest in trouble financially?

They owe 50k from last year and the plan to add another day to make it a real festival hung up on the cities permitting process… so they need all the donations they can get to keep going. Like all of Seattle’s events that rely on sponsors and donations, (seafair, July 4th, pirates) the last few years have seen rising cost and squeezed sponsors.

Andrea and I became members this year even though I can’t go or volunteer.

JoB according to a story on Evening Magazine last night, they are indeed in trouble financially.

They were thinking if they could run it on Friday as well, and make it a three day event, that extra day would be in enough donations to offset the deficit. They were unable to convince the City to grant the extra day this year, so are hoping for them to grant it next year, so that they can continue the Fest.

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but (I guess going by last year’s donations), it averaged out to literally just a few dollars per person that attended.
