Great point Charlabob. I have been noticing that myself lately and find it odd that more people are not making a bigger deal about this because it is a BIG deal.

Elizabeth Edwards is rumored to be going on the road in North Carolina tomorrow, campaigning with Clinton. It’s the health care, stupid. About a month ago, she gently suggested that Hillary’s health care plan was better than Barack’s. (She’s right.) There was absolutely no reason he couldn’t have compromised. He didn’t. IMNHO it’s a moot point because it will take ages the Democrats to reclaim the moral high ground around the social safety net. BUT, nevertheless, if the rumor is true, it’s very sad and very unnecessary. :-(

My brother, a very conservative Republican, told me more than a year ago the best thing the Dem’s could do was to have Clinton as our nominee. Once she is, the “R’s” will then begin to rehash all of the Clinton history and distract everyone from the true issues at hand (as they did 15 years ago) and we’ll see McCain (who he doesnt like either!) elected. It’s happening just as predicted. I mean when Fox happily announces they were the first to report Hillary’s win with big fat smiles on their faces, something is up!!

I wonder why Clinton wasn’t asked about this amazingly insulting and racist remark, made by her surrogate the mayor of Philadelphia: Seems like a good topic for the substance-free ABC debate:

Nutter said. “All black folks don’t eat fried chicken or eat watermelon. When do we make some progress here?”

TammiWS my dad is the said the same thing. I also find it interesting that my dad has not only campaigned for Obama since McCain became the Repug nominee but also donated money to him.

That is just to unfortunate about if Elizabeth Edwards is campaigning for Clinton. I understand that something has got to be done about health care and i do think Clinton has the better the plan, but I still do not and will never belive that Clinton is the better nominee once you look @ all of the issues.

There is a definite reason the Republicans want Hillary to win, it will motivate their voters to vote for McShame. Rush Limbaugh makes jokes about his listeners causing chaos within the Dem party, and it seems to be working.

I do like Hillary’s health plan better, but I’m not a one issue voter, it’s what is best for all of us, not just the “I” voter.

Come on- Elizabeth Edwards? Who gives a crap? What stature does she have? She is the wife, of a candidate that won about 40 total delegates, and whose biggest achievement was getting 2nd in Iowa… Truthfully John Edwards endorsement isn’t a very big deal- he did lose to Kerry in 2004, lost as a VP to Bush/Cheney, and didn’t win one state in this election. Come on…

    Who cares?

“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran,” Clinton said. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

What do hillary supporters think of this??

LOl.. walfredo.. i would duck if i were you…

Bad enough to dismiss Elizabeth Edwards as “just a wife”..

and thank you for illustrating that that particular phrase isn’t used just in connection with Hillary.. you used it to dismiss Elizabeth Edwards…

    shame on you.

Sexism is alive and well ladies…

and it is alive and well whether Walfredo is a man or a woman…

but to dismiss Edwards as of no importance on this thread..

now that really takes some guts…

of course.. since the brunt of your remarks were anti-Hillary.. you might just get away with it.

and that would be a real shame…

Walfredo, Elizabeth Edwards is amazing and your dismissal offensive. Besides being very smart and accomplished in her own right, she has had a very active role in her husband’s campaign and a lot of us wanted him to win.

Why is she important? Because of her involvement, she gave a lot of speeches and answered a lot of questions about her and her husbands beliefs. They came across as a genuine team who deeply care about our country and want to contribute to it’s success and well-being in every way.

I think John Edwards is going to be around for a long time. I trust the 2 of them as a package as she is one of his closest advisers. Therefore, her opinions have value to me.

The guy didn’t win one state. He lost to John Kerry. He lost with John Kerry. And he never got anywhere this election. His support is not that big of a deal.

Come on- John Kerry is a much higher stature. Al Gore he was at least the VP for awhile, and got more votes. Nancy Pelosi is the 3rd in line to president. What exactly is Edwards again?

A guy without a job? A guy who wasn’t going to get re-elected in North Carolina so he ran for president instead? A guy who lost twice as a candidate for president, and a guy who lost as a vice presidential candidate? Stop me when I’m getting this wrong… What exactly makes him important- he did beat Clinton in Iowa to get second… And he had the good sense to drop out before Super Tuesday and a huge embarrassment…

I’m sorry- I don’t see it. Who did Hadassah Lieberman endorse? Based on your logic she’s of the same stature… Failed Presidential nominee, failed VP candidate’s spouse… That’s the big vote to get huh? I guess next election that will be Bill Clinton’s role, so maybe its important?

How about Kucinich’s wife, he also didn’t win any states- who does she like? Bill Richardson’s wife- same deal? Mrs. Biden? These are fascinating endorsements, and extraordinarily important!

Elizabeth Edwards is not only an amazing woman who supported her very high profile political husband with her insight and knowledge, but she is also raising 3 children (2 of whom are under the age of 10), grieving for another child who passed away tragically a few years ago, and fighting metastatic breast cancer every day of her life.

Try to find a man that can do that while still maintaining themselves in the public eye…

    walfredo…

    you are determined aren’t you…

some wives choose political partnerships with their husbands.. some don’t.

you don’t seem to be able to discriminate..

    oh wait.. you do discriminate..

    you just aren’t very discriminating:)

i wondered how long you would be able to hide those spots…

    An old old joke:

So Hillary and Bill were driving down a highway in Arkansas when they pull over for gas. Hillary recognizes the gas station attendant as an old high school sweetheart. Bill says “just think Hillary, if you had married him you’d be the wife of a gas station attendant.” Hillary replies, “no Bill, if I had married him, I’d be married to the President of the United States.”

My husband knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is successful and happy today because he was lucky enough to marry me. I have no doubt about that either. John and Elizabeth Edwards are a team, don’t dismiss her contributions to his success, he doesn’t.

PS: JoB, my guess is Walfredo must be a young single man, he’ll learn someday…

I would be interested to know exactly which endorsement(s) Obama has received that walfredo either a: is happy with and b: is not involved in a conspiracy.

Just curious. Maybe, walfredo, the people that a candidate surrounds them self with is not important in your view? Please share.

I think Elizabeth Edwards is wonderful, and walfredo, don’t demean Sen. Edwards either. He’s one of bright lights of the Democratic party and one of the few true progressives left.

Walfredo, did you even read my post or did you just decide I’m full of sh.. and you’re right. As JoB said also, she was in a political partnership and conducted very high profile campaigning. And for me, I believe we will see more of them and what they believe and stand for is important to ME! Your logic is the one that is meaningless. The examples you gave don’t compare in any way to the role she has had. I never claimed her to be the *be all end all* in endorsements. Again, I said she matters to me. It is you after all who said, who cares. Then you dismiss my answer.

hmmm…I’m surprised that, since this is the Clinton thread, no one has responded to BDG’s post, #133, about the war monger’s “bring it on” approach to Iran.

Before you say, blah blah blah — Israel – I’m a Jew and I belong to the Jstreet Lobby, which is trying to help the people in Israel who don’t want a hundred years war.

And before you say, “blah blah blah Pakistan blah blah blah” Yup, Obama said he’d go after Bin Laden. Does anyone remember him? The guy who recruited a bunch of Saudis to attack America(sic).

I never said she isn’t a super lady. I’m sure she is. I’m saying she isn’t much of an endorsement.

Charla and BDG- it is kind of amazing how that has flown under the radar. The centrist democrats have slowly moved right in line with radical republicans on foreign policy, and if you look at Lieberman and quotes like this from Hillary are starting to creep to the right of even the republicans…

    charlabob…

i didn’t bring up this subject.. but i notice you changed it without commenting…

as for the hillary comment.. taken out of context again…

and yes.. charlabob.. you are right.. there are plenty of Obama comments that could also be taken out of context…

don’t you think that game is getting boring?

    i refuse to play.

Um, I’m the person who originally posted the fact that Edwards was campaigning for Clinton — didn’t know I was required to comment further. (And I thought everyone was doing a fine job of explaining why what she does matters.)

No, not out of context. Context used to be a word that had meaning — both sides pretty well obliterated that.

JoB, I find it hard to believe that you refuse to play whatever game you think this is. :-)

#140 — NR, I can’t speak for Walf but the endorsements that worry me the most are those of right-wing Democrats–I don’t have time to look them up and list them, but there are a few — the governor of Kansas, for example. I’d be a lot happier if Bobby Kennedy was one of the Kennedy’s on the Obama side. More when I get back to a real computer that operates at warp speed — as you-all can tell, I do hate ignoring or being ignored. :-)

    From Maya Angelou:

    “Dear Friend:

I am writing to tell you about my friend, Hillary Clinton, and why I am standing with her in her campaign for the presidency. I know the kind of president Hillary Clinton will be because I know the person she is.

I am inspired by her courage and her honesty. She is a reliable and trustworthy person. She is someone I not only admire but one for whom I have profound affection.

Hillary does not waver in standing up for those who need a champion. She has always been a passionate protector of families. As a child, she was taught that all God’s children are equal, and as a mother, she understood that her child wasn’t safe unless all children were safe. As I wrote about Hillary recently in a praise song: “She is the prayer of every woman, and every man who longs for fair play, healthy families, good schools and a balanced economy.”

It may be easy to view Hillary Clinton through the narrow lens of those who would write her off or grind her down. Hillary sees us as we are, black and brown and white and yellow and pink and relishes our differences knowing that fundamentally we are all more alike than we are unalike. She is able to look through complexion and see community.

She has endured great scrutiny, and still she dares greatly. Hillary Clinton will not give up on you, and all she asks is that you do not give up on her. She is a long-distance runner. I am honored to say I am with her for the long run.

I am supporting Hillary Clinton because I know that she will make the most positive difference in people’s lives and she will help our country become what it can be. Whether you are her supporter, leaning towards her, undecided, or supporting someone else, I believe Hillary Clinton will represent you – she will be a president for all Americans. It is no small thing that along the way we will make history together.

Vote for Hillary Clinton and show your support http://www.hillaryclinton.com. I know she will make us proud.”

I trust and admire Maya Angelou very much. Strong, indepedent, wise women all. This is what I like to hear. NOT all the negativity.

andrea.. thank you for posting that…

It is too easy to get sucked into all of the publicized bull.. all of the half truths masquerading as important… and forget why a candidate is important to you.

Hillary is important to me because she could be a true instrument of change… she actually cares about individuals in a way i have never seen from any other candidate…

there is a reason she has so much support from the poor of America. She actually cares about what is important to them.

Maya Angelou certainly puts it all into perspective, doesn’t she.
