Waldorf Grade One & Two Homeschool Program

    Contact Aiko Shimada at: aikoshimada@hotmail.com

OR Call 206-937-1964 soon if you are interested!

A group of Seattle homeschool families is starting a First and Second Grade program based on the head, heart and hand approach of Waldorf Education. Our goal is to meet the child where the child is with creativity, freedom and guidance.

We are ready to start in September and have found an inspired Waldorf trained teacher to lead the group. There are a couple more spots open, but act soon, as we will be closing admissions in mid June.

Our program will start in September of 2011 and be a 3 day a week, half day schedule. The main teacher will lead our children in the Main Lesson subjects of First and Second Grades, meeting the needs of the children, while other subjects, such as Japanese, Handwork (including knitting), and Outdoor Games will be taught by the parents. Please read below for a more detailed account of the curriculum.

    Ages: 6 ½ (by September) – 8 ½, Max: 8 kids

    Schedule and Fees:

Yearly: September, 2011 through early June, 2012

    Weekly: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

    Daily Time: 10:00 – 1:45

$3000 (comes down to $300/month if you paid 10 installments)*

Location: Admiral District of West Seattle

    Deadline for sign-up: $50 sign-up by June 15, 2011 along with $300 deposit

*The fee will go towards the teacher, materials, rent and utilities.

    Content of the Program:

The curriculum covers nature stories, fairy tales and folk tales from around the world; pictorial and phonetic introduction to letters; form drawing and handwriting of upper-case letters; preparation for reading through writing; and introduction to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Children will be learning through stories, music, verses & poems, games, and movements. There will be a focus on the child’s inner creativity, which will be enhanced by in-depth painting, drawing, modeling and craft work. Lunch and a half hour of play time in outside will be included. In addition to the Main Lesson, children will be learning Japanese, knitting, and outdoor games taught by the parents. We are seeking parents who are willing to be actively involved in the program.
