guidosmomMemberQuick question – When is the hi yu parade this year? I can’t seem to get to the hi yu website, it must temporarily be down. I don’t think it’s even called the hi yu parade anymore… Thanks!

WSBKeymasterThis may be a problem with searching:
Believe it or not, it’s NOT the “Hi-Yu Parade.”
It’s the American Legion Grand Parade.
It happens during the Hi-Yu Festival, and the Hi-Yu Festival float participates in it, but they do not sponsor or present the parade.
It’s been in the WSB Events calendar

for months (and yes, July 18 is the day), but under the name American Legion Grand Parade. The local American Legion lodge organizes and presents it.
It’s preceded by the Kiddies Parade presented by the Kiwanis Club of West Seattle.
The big July 11th event is West Seattle Summer Fest in The Junction (WSB sponsor) – happening July 10-11-12. Also, the Seafair Pirates Landing at Alki is July 11.
I’m going to make this all into a home-page post today while things are quiet – it’s about time for “the big dates of the summer” – thanks for starting the forum post as an unintentional reminder!

guidosmomMemberlowanbeach – thanks! That was probably why I could not get an exact date with my search. My entire family has called it the Hi Yu parade since I can remember. I’ll have to break the news to them. Thanks!

WSBKeymasterThat’s how almost everyone knows it … but we were corrected, and as an official news source, we have to go with the official name. Gets tough in search results though – people Google for Hi-Yu Parade!
(And if you found this through a 2010 google, we are editing to note that THE 2010 PARADE IS JULY 24)
