Went to my Family Doctor for the 3rd time in the past 5 years yesterday about my daily headaches I have been having for the past 10+ years (migraines and “normal”) and all she wanted to do was write me a prescription for a narcotic! I told her if she did I would not take them let alone fill the RX.
Does anyone else out there suffer like I do and or know of a Doctor that will take me seriously or even a good headache clinic nearby?

    Thanks in advance

MD educations are focused on pills and little else. Go see Dr. Angela Ross, Lifespan Naturopathic Medicine. http://www.lifespannaturopathic.com/dr-angela/

She can help you narrow down the causes of the headaches and work with you to get them resolved.

Waikiki: sorry you are suffering. Started having migraines at 8 after a head injury which only worsened over the next several years due to more head/neck injuries (and lots of heading in soccer)-personally found relief as a teenager with chiropractic care and went from a couple migraines/month to maybe 2/year. It continues to help me manage things some 30 years later.

I also did quite a bit of research on other “triggers” (mostly structural from all the previous injuries) but also discovered some dietary, some environmental etc… found a great deal of help in a book I have recommended to many others called, How to Heal your Headaches by Buchholtz, MD I think it is. More recently have done some more investigation with great relief/results from doing the Whole 30 plan with specific re-introduction.

Hope you can get some help.

DHG, I will check out your Doctor recommendation, had one Doctor that was naturopathic but he relocated to Vashon, was so sad when he did and to Jissy, thanks so much on your info…never thought my migraines could be from injuries I have had, and to both of you your understanding. I will check both of your recommendations out.

    Thanks again!

Waikiki, I’ve had migraines all my life, although not daily. Without taking away from any of the excellent advice above, for headaches you need to see a neurologist, not an MD.

My migraines aren’t daily should had stated that but they are too frequent, had 12 last year some were twice in one month but my “normal/regular” headaches are daily. :>(
Thought about seeing a neurologist as KatherineL stated(thank you) but not too many close by, don’t like driving to far out of the neighborhood (getting old I guess) LOL and even thought about botox injections.
I’ve gotten 3 good ideas/advice above and I will check into all of them. Thanks so much.

I’ve had migraines since I was a teenager. I’ve mostly controlled them through diet. There are several classes of migraine inducing foods. For me, chocolate and eggs are the big triggers. (Yes, there is life after chocolate).
One resource that was very helpful was a book by Robert Kohlenberg. It included a finger temperature monitor, which changed color with changes in finger temp. This reflected changes in blood flow. It gave a really graphic picture of migraine-inducing situations so that you could do deep relaxation exercises to counter the migraine precursor. The book also had lots of info about migraine inducing foods.
There are migraine meds that are not narcotic. Seeing a neurologist could be helpful.

By the way, a neurologist IS and MD. MD stands for Medical Doctor, as in attended and graduated from med school.

Acupuncture and/or cranial-sacral osteopathy. Please be aware that CS treatment by practitioners other than D.O.’s may be different.

IMO, our medical/health care system needs some serious revision, and not just in terms of insurance, distribution, and costs. For many common maladies, the treatments prescribed are overpriced, completely reliant on pharmaceuticals, and in the end not very effective. Many Americans still believe that we have the best health care in the world. That is far from being the case.
