westsidestoriParticipantRecommendations needed for list of smaller projects which need to get done around the house. I have been looking on C-List but would much rather have a neighborhood recommendation. Here’s my (honey I don’t do) to do list:
Putting in a tile backsplash in the kitchen
small patch repair in ceiling drywall
fixing leaky toilet, just need new wax ring
troubleshooting electrical outlets not working in our kitchen.
Installation of hot water tank restraints
Tacking up loose insulation under home/crawl space.
fixing leaking water spicket in backyard.
I’d love any help, would like to get these things knocked out, any input is appreciated!

maddyParticipantI recommend Amy Works – 206-478-2019. They have a website. Used them twice and they did a good job. Once to replace a fence post and also to install a latch on a gate. Charge $75/hr. + $25 travel fee. In the past I’ve had really bad experiences with “handymen”. Either they do sub-par work or after they do a few jobs well – they get sloppy and mess up.

westsidestoriParticipantThanks, I left a voice mail for her – I appreciate your feedback!

jayjayb74ParticipantYou might try Thumtack, we have been successful using this service for many odd jobs. 75 and hour seems pretty steep to me.

JeannieParticipantI have to agree with jayjayb74. $75/hour plus travel fee does seem steep. Is that the going rate for a decent handyman/woman these days? Seems like the original poster’s projects could easily run up to $1,000 at that rate.

pennidoggParticipantMy husband Chris Taylor, is a tilesetter and lives in West Seattle. Many happy clients. You can give him a call for an estimate at 360-621-4698

westsidestoriParticipantJust a follow-up for you all – we ended up finding a GREAT guy to take care of everything – His name is Nate – SUPER affordable (it was around $30/hr) and does AMAZING work!!! I highly recommend his services! He worked around our home for about 3 days, took care of the tiling in the kitchen, fixed the GFCI outlets in our kitchen, the insulation in our crawl-space, dryer vent duct replacement, fixing up our leaky toilet, patching our drywall/ceiling, and we are already thinking of more things to come have him do :) CALL NATE 206-349-7069!

afrikandoParticipantThanks for the update–Nate sounds like a real find. Is he licensed or bonded?

PangolinPieParticipantI’d like to know if he’s licensed and bonded too; I’m looking for a contractor. And is that number above textable? Thanks Westsidestori!

metrognomeParticipantI googled the phone number; it belongs to Gerrit Construction. I checked L&I; Gerrit does not appear to currently be licensed or bonded.

westsidestoriParticipantI don’t know if he is licensed/bonded, I received his information from a very good friend who had him do a lot of work around her home and also had nothing but good things to say – just wanted to give him a shout-out since we were so pleased :)
