My cousin purchased this for his “ex-wife” to re-propose but she left before he did. Lucky for him I guess, but now he needs to sell it. Beautiful two toned ring for sale. Round center diamond .85 light carat in raised setting with 8 princess cut diamonds (4 on each side of mounting) + 4 small rounds (2 on top and 2 on bottom of main band).

Appraised for $6,000 by two local jewelers (Menashe & Sons and Wyatts) – selling for $3,000 cash – local sale only.

Size 7 band, two toned band with stamped design. Need to sell asap, me an offer I can’t refuse. Email rockergirl5678@yahoo.com for more info and pics – see pic on craigslist ad.

If appraised at 6K and selling at 3K, I say Caveat Emptor….let the buyer be ware!

    Libra, please elaborate your concerns.

If the point that you are trying to make is in regards to the legitimacy of rockergirl selling the ring, I have to say that although I’m not sure if I’ve met her in person, rockergirl has posted on these forums on a rather regular basis, and seem like a decent enough person.

Libra has a good point, but even if legitimate I would add that this is a very dangerous method for selling expensive jewelry. A woman in the Seattle area was murdered last year after a very similar posting on Craig’s List, and it was not an isolated incident. Good way to get robbed or murdered.

If someone contacts you and their return e-mail is something like obamadeathpanel@hotmail.com I’d be very suspicious. They’ll kill you for your ring. . . . (tongue firmly planted in cheek – please note that the link shouldn’t work as I just made it up).

Now that’s a valid point, anonyme.

    Be careful, rockergirl!

The ad is legit. Ring is legit too…..like I said cousin is in need to get rid of it as he needs the money and does not need the ring any longer, sadly lesson learned twice. I understand this is not the best way to sell the ring and that there are safety issues involved but we will make sure we take precautions. If you know of anyone who might be interested I would love to hear from them thank you for all your concerns.

WTH? The guy can sell it for any price he wants up to the appraised amount, don’t you think? He could even give it away if he wanted. It’s a lovely ring…looks a bit like my daughters engagement ring. Really, why would anyone even think buyer beware?

Is everyone really that paranoid in life?

I often struggle with that question: paranoid or cautious?

I have a friend who sells many expensive things on CL & her rule is go somewhere there are cameras for sure – banks are the best. Good luck!

if it’s appraised at $6k and you want $3k simply let the jeweler who appraised it buy it for $3k

The jewelers have to buy it for less so they can make money in the transaction too. Its all about making a profit one way or another. While it’s worth 6 grand it might not retail for that in this economy. Would love to hear from someone who might be interested in buying – are there any hopeless romantics out there waiting to propose or surprise the love of there life with such a beautiful piece of jewelry. If so send me an email please :)

Jewelry prices make my head spin. I’ve never understood the term “appraised value.” Sorry – I’m having flashbacks to engagement ring shopping.

if the jeweler is appraising at $6k and you want $3k it appears there is $3k of profit to be had. what am i missing rockergirl?

Fer chrissake, hoop, rockergirl is just trying to help her cousin sell a ring.

Perhaps they want to give someone a chance to buy it relatively cheaply, instead of purchasing a similar ring for much more money at a jewelry store.

Perhaps you are missing lack of greed on rockergirl and her cousin’s part….

hoop – you’re possibly missing the part where rockergirl wants to sell it for $3k and not to a jeweler – for whatever reason she chooses.

I’ve had two diamond/gold rings, one gold ring, and several antique rugs from the Middle East and eastern Russia appraised. The appraisals always came in shockingly high. My purpose for appraisals was for insurance (no, I didn’t strongarm the appraisers), and my understanding is that the appraisals were what I could expect if the perfect buyer came about at the perfect time and was willing to pay the max “worth.” No, I didn’t quite understand the logic, but I got the info I needed. I did have some items appraised again 15 or so years later, and they came in a few hundred dollars higher than the original appraisals. I did have one interior designer see one of the rugs when it was being cleaned at a rug store, and I was offered double the appraised value. So … just some anecdote on appraisals. I take it to mean the OP could put her cousin’s ring in a high-end consignment shop, wait 5ish years, and probably get the 6K.

I hate to rain on anyones parade but most jewelry appraises for double the retail price. Perhaps that’s not the case this time but it happens often. http://redtape.nbcnews.com/_news/2006/12/13/6346038-jewelry-at-half-price-well-kind-of?lite http://www.diamonds2cash.com/appraisal/

But I guess it doesn’t matter now as the Craigslist posting has expired.

Might help if he put in the ad the color ,cut and clarity of the main diamond, the type of cert the diamond has and what carat the gold is.

The total diamond carat weight would be helpful also.

Sorry. No, I don’t need a diamond. I used to have an interest in grading diamonds and gemstones so am a bit of diamond geek and know that some people want to know the stats of a diamond. A lot of people are getting more educated about diamonds now and like to know as much as they can so it helps to put as much as possible into an ad.

    Hope he can sell it.

Thanks – I agree and am glad to provide whatever info. I have at this point. I did not have the info. at the time I posted the first time. Cousin had it and I had to get it from him. It is a gorgeous diamond – mounting and ring are too.

I wish I had the money as I would buy it from him myself.
