RarelyEverParticipantAre any establishments (bars) planning to show the GOP debate(s) tonight? I have a nifty little drinking game chart AND a designated driver! :)
August 6, 2015 at 8:00 pm #826696
wakefloodParticipantI’m not sure, I might have to take a distribution from my 401k to cover my alcohol costs.
August 6, 2015 at 8:06 pm #826697
JanSParticipantFrom having looked to see who is covering this debate on the TeeVee, all I could find was Fox News…a station that I abhor watching. Not on ABC, CBS, NBC…not on CNN, MSNBC, etc. Am I missing something? Shouldn’t all be able to watch? It’s a presidential thing, even if it is the more conservative side. Having it on Fox News is like preaching to the choir. When the more liberal side has it’s debate(s), are these same stations not going to carry those? Yes, I’m more to the left of things…but really, there’s no neutrality amongst these stations?
August 6, 2015 at 8:12 pm #826698
WSBKeymasterFOX News is producing the debate. In a continuation of an entirely outmoded system IMO, the debates rotate networks, locations, etc.
August 6, 2015 at 8:25 pm #826699
JanSParticipantso, I’ll have to hold my nose, I suppose. I will miss the beginning because of client, but will have popcorn at the ready.A shame we can’t call in questions o_O

JKBParticipantA cable-only event. Well, so much for that.

AdmiralJanewayParticipantI did not watch the earlier debate, but I read Carly Fiorina did very well and may have boosted herself well up the polls. Her preparation showed, and she didn’t have to be in a circus environment with 9 other debaters.
As far as Donald Trump goes, the excitement around him reminds me of the early buzz that Michelle Bachmann had 4 years ago. I don’t think Trump will sustain his poll numbers when Labor Day comes around.
August 7, 2015 at 2:34 pm #826702
JoBParticipantI don’t mean this as a snark at Admiral Janeway but a legitimate question..
i wondered what Carly Fiorina could have possibly said that made people say she did well in the debates.. and no.. i didn’t watch them… so i googled it…
the word used most often to describe her debate was performance.. it was even used by politico.
there was little talk of content but plenty of mention of posture, demeanor and combativeness.
when did we as a nation lose sight of the content of political debate?
i feel like i am lost in a reality show but at the end of the day the prize the contestant with the most shine is going to get is the seat in the oval office.
Carly would use her first ten minutes to flex the US military muscle and undermine any possible diplomacy with Iran.
the end game in this performance is yet another war with yet another generation of young people killed and wounded…
all form.. no function :(
and that’s true of almost every candidate
including Hillary who spent the night of the debate at a fundraiser taking selfies with the Kardashians
We deserve better.
August 7, 2015 at 3:38 pm #826703
wakefloodParticipantI’ve seen Carly several times on Bill Maher. She’s just another GOP candidate with the same, tired schtick. Reduce regulation! Free markets! US mighty! Lower taxes! Yada, frickin’ yada.
They literally haven’t had an original thought (nor a functional one) as a party for 25yrs.
She MAY, and I emphasize, MAY have a slightly better take on women’s issues but it’s still likely within the bounds of standard GOP dogma, as any attempt to break out of that would render her even less popular with their shrinking base.
August 7, 2015 at 5:38 pm #826704
SmittyParticipant“i didn’t watch them… so i googled it…”
I stopped reading your post after that. Come on now.
Here is a 2 minute snippet for you. Anyone who can smack down the leg tingler has my attention. “

StumbledoreMemberDiplomacy with Iran? Watch videos of Friday prayers and get a whiff of their idea of “diplomacy”.
The mullahs preach death to America and a burning desire to wipe Israel off the map.
Not sure how we’re supposed to be diplomatic in the face of these persistent threats not only to our national security but the very existence of one of our greatest allies in the region.
In the end we better prepare ourselves for the inevitability of war with Iran, because it’s going to happen one way or another.
August 7, 2015 at 7:49 pm #826706
wakefloodParticipantDear Stumbledore,
What you are doing is choosing to support the extremists by proving that America isn’t a trustworthy negotiating partner. That dramatically weakens the case for the many moderates in Iran who want to be re-engaged with the international community and desire good relations with the US.
You also seem to be looking at the middle east with some bizarro-world perspective. Exactly WHAT about the current destabilized clusterf*ck of a situation works for you?
You want to condemn the next two generations to more death, chaos and turn millions more into radical America-haters, and spend trillions of your tax dollars to do it? Nope. Been there, done that.
And that’s not even bothering to mention that Israel is wagging you like a flea-bitten dog.
August 7, 2015 at 7:55 pm #826707
wakefloodParticipantAnd if you’re capable of it, just imagine yourself an average Joe/Jane in Iran, wondering if America is trustworthy or means you harm and up on your TV pops Sen. Tom Cotton talking about bombing you into oblivion.
Yeah, that would give me lots of confidence. Loons and fools.
August 7, 2015 at 10:23 pm #826708
DianeParticipantthe original question, any public viewing?
apparently not?
no one answered that question
I had no desire to watch; went to WS design review instead, and then got caught up on our far more important local election results

JoBParticipantsorry smitty..
that clip had me at the headline
there is not enough time in the world for me to choose to spend it listening to more Benghazi crap
besides.
do you really want Carly to do to us what she did to HP?
I am thinking failed CEOs are not who we should be looking to if we want our economy to succeed.
she didn’t even know the difference between good and bad advice :(

JoBParticipantAugust 8, 2015 at 5:56 am #826711
JanSParticipantand, smitty, for the record….because one did not see the “debates” (they aren’t really debates) live, in person, does not negate a good opinion of them. Some people can’t watch (pointing to myself)…I was working on a client….so my only choice is to read what’s posted about them. So, I can’t join in the discussion because of that?
Besides…Faux News ….sigh…
August 8, 2015 at 8:55 am #826712
metrognomeParticipantmy understanding is that Jon Stewart won the debate.
the most surprising thing I learned is that the Trumpet is a theoretical astrophysicist; apparently, he is postulating the theory that the entire universe revolves around him.
btw, per a comment on MSNBC, no other station was allowed to broadcast footage of the ‘debate’ until the ‘debate’ was over.
August 8, 2015 at 5:29 pm #826713
SmittyParticipantThe only true way to get a read is to watch (body language, temperament, etc), not read about it from (more than likely) a persons favorite (skewed) sources….for conservatives that’s Fox, for liberals that’s everything else (want to swap marketshare?).
I think you would have been impressed with the questions from “Faux”…….
My observations; Rubio, Kaisich and Fiorina did themselves well. Carly is going to get some serious momentum, but has to come up with a easy soundbite to combat the HP lies being spread.
I think Walker will be exposed (not very smart) and Cruz will be demonized. Paul was too angry. Bush was “vanilla”. Christie was OK. Carson is not very bright for a surgeon – he says all the right things, but something is missing.
Oh, and Trump is a Democrat plant who is was planning to run as an independent the entire time to guarantee his friend HRC gets elected.
August 8, 2015 at 8:32 pm #826714
JanSParticipantthere are videos….and I’m better the whole thing is out there on the internet. Market shares? Well, that only tells you how many really uninformed people are out there. Watch Al Jazeera for the news. I do not watch CNN, nor MSNBC. I do know how to use google…you find the most fascinating things on the interwebs. So…one does not have to rely on only the written word. And I do not have to look at Donald Trump to realize what a blowhard and an ass he is, or Jeb Bush, to realize how he is not presidential material, orPaul Rand…oh, heaven forbid Paul Rand “lets duke it out on stage”…
oh, yeah…and Scott Walker.. I’m guilty…I have already pre-judged him…lol…
you honestly think Trump is a plant? I thing he’s just an offensive human being…a buffoon, has no filters, and embodies the “Ugly American” totally. Are you suggesting the Hilary would lower herself to that level? Seriously?
August 8, 2015 at 10:55 pm #826715
SmittyParticipantMaybe “plant” is the wrong word because it implicates others. I think he is doing this on his own, knowing full well he is going to run as an (I) at the end of the day – and basically handing the election to HRC. That said, I thought the same thing about Perot and his hatred for the Bush family and that never materialized.
And, the marketshare comment was not directed at you, but to all those who constantly hammer “Faux” News. Yes, they dominate cable news, but come nowhere close to network viewership news numbers.
Carly is going to start moving up quickly, as is Rubio, imho.
August 8, 2015 at 11:23 pm #826716
JoBParticipantSmitty..
“The only true way to get a read is to watch (body language, temperament, etc), not read about it from (more than likely) a persons favorite (skewed) sources…”
you have hit my gripe on the head with a 50 pound sledge hammer.
i don’t want to know how well they posture.
I am not hiring them for their looks.
i want to know where they stand on the issues and i want them to explain to me why they came to that conclusion.
anything less is nothing more than political theater…
August 8, 2015 at 11:24 pm #826717
JoBParticipantSmitty..
please tell me one question from “faux” that actually impressed you..
and then tell us why
August 8, 2015 at 11:31 pm #826718
JoBParticipantSmitty
i submit wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Fiorina
read her work history and tell me again why you think Carly is good for America
