MargLMembernear corner of 104th and 34th in front of Hillcrest Presb. Church.
Looks like there might be a rip on one arm.
Didn’t look too close, it’s not mine, some schmoe dumped it overnight. At least there’s a ‘free’ sign. Would be nice to have it gone before it gets torched like the last couch dumped on church property…

cakeitseasyMemberDumping furniture and other “free” stuff seems to be fairly common around West Seattle. Are the trashy people doing this from West Seattle I wonder, or do we just get dumped on? This mentality of putting junk out on the parking strip seems to be rather pervasive here. Do we just have a high concentration of inconsiderate jackasses in the area, or do the goobers who do this really think it’s okay to litter? Yeah, that spongy, filthy recliner from the 80’s looks like a real sweet deal, especially when it’s been out in the rain a few days. And how about one of those discarded mattresses, of dubious provenance, and a battered old dresser to round out your new pad? It’s all “free”! (except for the one that eventually has to haul it away and dispose of it). If you want to rid yourself of your stuff, use craigslist or have a yard sale…otherwise it’s LITTER.

CarolPBMemberWe recently changed out a toilet. I called the city to request a “bulky item” pick-up. The guy on the phone said they do not pick up toilets, but he ACTUALLY suggested I put it on the street with a “free” sign on it!! I could not believe it!

MargLMemberBump – couch still out there. Looks like it’s a brownish-purple upholstery if that fits in with anyone’s decor.
Also, next week (Mon/Tues) Hillcrest Presb is going to be tearing down the front awning that was hit by a box truck earlier this year. There will be a pile of free wood after that…

MargLMemberNo no, don’t bash the Church!
They did not put the couch there – some other ‘generous’ person dumped it on the parking strip because it’s a convenient place to pull over. Also just happens to be across the street from my house.
The pile of wood will be over by the dumpster and will be available to anyone who wants some wood. That was more of an FYI. They are actually planning on doing the ecologically sound thing and having Second Use Salvage come and pick up some of it.

miwsParticipantHeh, I was bashing Hillcrest when it was first built back in the mid-late ’70’s.
The house I lived in throughout my high school years, and for nearly two years beyond, (1978) was on 102nd in Arbor Heights.
We originally had an excellent view of the Mountain from the kitchen window/back deck. In fact, my guardian’s husband used to put an “R” on the calendar, on the days the Mountain was out.
As soon as Hillcrest went up, with it’s highly peaked roof, our view went away. Although, IIRC, we still had a peek-a-boo.
I kinda had mixed feelings, (I mean I was seriously irrtiated with the church at the time), because my parents were married in the original Hillcrest (on 35th, current home of Mars Hill), in 1951.

MargLMemberMike – Love the history!
We currently have a ‘peek-a-boo’ view of the Mountain from some parts of the front yard, mostly due to the 2 story house across the street. At some point this house might have had a nice view from the front porch but now the best we can get is standing on the roof :-)

Oh!…good to know…well then, I retract my litterbug admonishment. :-)
No harm leaving it by the dumpster with a plan to get rid of it shortly and in a responsible manner. I’m a big fan of Second Use. I think calling for salvage is a great alternative to the dump (and dumping).
And btw, I was clear on the couch being trashed by your house, nothing to do with the Church. I mistakenly read the second post as if the church was getting rid of the torn down wood like the jerks who dumped the couch.
Too bad about that Rainier view though.

addParticipantDid anyone notice that couch that was out on the parking strip on 35th (down near Alaska) where someone spray-painted “New Lower Price” on it? Ha ha, real funny – except now it’s even more seriously JUNK and will end up in a landfill it’s gone but I doubt someone actually picked it up and placed it in their living room…

HelperMonkeyParticipantif anyone missed out on the last mystery sofa, there seems to be a new sofa/loveseat on 42nd between 98th and 100th. It appeared in the last few hours. I am sure if you wait until morning it will have an added layer of raccoon pee aroma.
