*Not really a business listing since I do this for my own entertainment. I have a couple of open spots on my workbench.

Any kind of computer and operating system, Windows, Mac, any Unix/Linux or networking them at any level.

    Desktops or Laptops.

I work on a cost plus donation basis. This means if you are on public assistance, unemployment, SS/SSI or welfare/ housing assistance, you can still get your computer fixed. I have a limited stock of used parts for older machines and could probably repair your old non working box if it has not been the site of a fire or flood. I know where cheap used parts are available in the city.

This is made possible by the donations of parts and computers from those of you who CAN afford to get your computer fixed but the local repair shops or geek squad were stumped. I really like the difficult puzzles :)

If some computer company wants to stop me from doing this they will have to hire me gray hair, pre-existing conditions, 18 years experience and all :)

You can call or email if you just want advice or something explained too. I will call back if I am driving or something.

Kevin, I have two older desktop computers that you can have for parts or whatever if you are interested. I can deliver them to you and bring my older laptop for you to look over. Let me know.

Kevin, I have a 6 or so old laptop. The only thing that’s wrong with it is the port in the back where you plug the power cord into. It’s busted (not allowing a connection for the computer to charge) and needs to be replaced. Is that a part that you would have or could find cheap?

I’ll send you an email with my contact info.

I think his name is KEN – from the posting listed above. Funny how one person misidentifying someone carries onto the next and the next. Very generous of you to do this Ken – I will keep you in mind if I have problems with my MAC.

    johnnyblegs:

There must be two dozen brands and models of laptops that had the design flaw (or 30 cents cheaper flaw)that led to replacing power jacks as a cottage industry for some companies.

The price of replacement parts have stabilized in recent years but some bad jacks are still on mainboards the are very difficult to solder without specialized equipment.

Let’s hope yours is one of those with a replaceable plug in modual or on a board without too much clutter around the part that has to be replaced.

Gimme the model number or mfg service tag and I can usually look it up and tell you what your choices are.

Let me just chime in here to vouch for Ken – he fixed a really annoying and chronic problem with my Outlook and other operating system issues with patience and good cheer. I really appreciated getting to know and supporting a fellow West Seattle-ite!

just a note: This is an ongoing offer, not a one time deal.

How ever I still need some occasional paying gigs to keep going :)

    Time for a bump.

I need parts machines. I have several p3 boxes and parts but the p4’s are running low.

I need your old laptops too. Mac or PC, Dead or damaged is ok. The parts can be reused if I happen to have a similar model come in. I can usually recover your data also if the thing won’t boot.

If it is easily repairable I will let you know what the cost should be and you can pass it down to kids or relatives.

I currently find myself getting short on 40 to 80 gig desktop and laptop drives for testing and forensic imaging if you have any holding your door open :) Upgrade the ram on your computer and give me the old ones :) (prices are low but since most are imported, the cost may be sliding upward soon as the dollar falls against Asian currencies)

The offer in the top post is still good for those of you in limited cash situations. I will keep it going as long as I have parts or it can be fixed with software and experience.

Ken, you emailed me before about my two sony laptops with a power jack problem. I really would like to take you up on your offer of retrieving my pictures and files off of them in trade for parts.

Do you have the last email from me with phone and address? If you don’t have time to drop them off I can come to you if you want to send the address and a time.

Or call me at the above number or the one in the email and we can talk about it.

206-801-0349 is the google voice number that rings all my phones and If I am unable to answer, emails a sometimes hilariously mangled transcript of your voicemail.

Bump! I so appreciate your effort to keep computers in service instead of the considerable outlay to buy something new.

Thanks Ken, I will get a hold of you in the next few days. Power outage last night wasn’t helping!
