    Hey everyone,

We found a cat yesterday evening (see this post in the pet forum: https://westseattleblog.com/pet/cat-found-in-sunrise-heights/).

I’ve made some signs that we’re planning to put up tomorrow and we’re going to take the cat by the vet to see if it’s chipped (chances are slim though since he’s not neutered yet).

Other than that, do you recommend we try any other venues for reuniting the cat with its owners?

He’s a great little dude. All he does is purr (loudly!) and play. We have two cats already, or we’d consider keeping him.

I don’t know if they still do it, but we found a dog a few years ago and called the Seattle Animal Shelter. They took down the info we gave them to pass along if anyone inquired about a similar dog, even though we kept the dog with us and the shelter didn’t take her. Someone did call after contacting them, though it ultimately wasn’t the owner. So you might see if they still will do that.

Is it possible that this is someone’s outdoor or ‘goes in-goes out’ cat and he’s not technically lost, just not at his place? Our neighbors have a few of those, out during nice weather, in for the night. They wander the ‘hood, some very friendly and willing to come up and talk, others more on the elusive side. They may be calling for him and he’s in your garage…just a thought.

I’m not sure. He was following all of our neighbors around, trying to get inside their houses. He is also really young (still has his baby teeth) so I would hope that someone wouldn’t let a kitten be indoor/outdoor so close to 35th and Barton.

I don’t recognize him as one of the local strays I see around. That said, he’s young enough that he just might be new to the area.

I would just hate to let him out and then have something happen to him.

Yes, it is dark now and even if he’s used to being outdoors, he’s very young. He’s a handsome fellow and is obviously someone’s pet. I hope he and they are soon reunited!

Another thing is to leave a picture and your contact info with all the local vets.

While I seriously doubt he/she is microchipped, You can take the cat to South Seattle Vet they are open 24 hrs to check for one. They could also tell you if he is fixed or not.

I also doubt he/she is fixed. FAF and FACT can do vaccines deworm and even get he/she fixed for under 50.00 (no reason to spend 200.00 or more).

The cat (who is a young boy) is certainly not fixed. :-)

To me, all signs point to him being a young stray or a kitten that someone dumped. :-( I have to say, though, that if he’s an orange-striped tabby, that you should KEEP him, even if you already have 2 kitties.

ORANGE CATS ARE THE BEST! They’re the friendliest, most outgoing, interesting critters. We have 5 cats, and while I love them all, our B.O.C (“big orange cat”) Mango is the coolest, most chill dude of them all. Charisma like none other.

You seem like a really swell cat-finder and I hope you will consider keeping him. If you decide you just cannot possibly do it, I recommend Seattle Animal Shelter down in Interbay. They are good folks and I am sure he would find a home through them.

I agree, Graces. We had 2 orange tabbies and they were both amazing. In some ways they were more like dogs; extremely friendly, attached to all the kids in the neighborhood and loved to go visiting and ride in the car. If I were able to adopt I’d love to have this guy.

@desertdweller, yes responsible rescues can get any kitten fixed over 2 lbs. Totally safe do it all the time. Feral cat project puts a tattoo of a S or N. Some organization put a dot on belly. There is NO reason to wait till the cat is 6 months total myth.

While I do not believe this kitten is fixed. It can be done.

If we didn’t already have two cats and a 14 month old human, we’d consider adopting him because he is one of the most sweet and outgoing kittens I’ve encountered. I’ve put up signs at the major intersections, so hopefully someone comes forward in the next few days. :-(

Does anyone know if Kitty Harbor is taking cats right now? We’d rather have the cat go to a west Seattle rescue.

Thanks Talaki. We’ll call this afternoon. He is such a sweet little boy and I’m so sad that we can’t give him a forever home.

I worked at a high-kill animal shelter during college, so I know all to well what can happen to strays and neglected cats. Short of us keeping him, I know that Kitty Harbor will do right by this little dude!

Thanks for all your good work, but with all the description info. you’ve put on this thread and the pets page, I’d be wary of anyone NOW responding to any posters on poles now, unless there is something you have NOT identified that a real owner can i.d. Please, by now take him to FAF(Friends of the Animals) or SAC(Seattle Animal Control). I’d be wary of someone with so much info. from the poster, and had NOT checked into SAC lost pet hotline yet. He deserves better owners, especially after this much time. Thanks again.

Kitty Harbor adopted out 20 cats and kittens this weekend so may have room for this guy. Just give them a call.

@4th of Eight: I take your general point, but I’m just trying to help a stray cat find its owners. I worked at a high-kill animal shelter during college; I’ve seen firsthand what horrible things people do to animals and I’ve also been privy to wonderful reunions and adoptions.

The cat is safe at Kitty Harbor.

Next time I find a stray animal I’ll make sure to be vague and cagey about what type of animal I’ve found, etc.

It is wonderful that you are the kind of person who will involve yourself when you see an animal in distress — lost, homeless, hurt, etc. Believe it or not, many (or “most,” if I’m feeling cynical) would have looked the other way at the little guy’s plight and continued on with their lives.

Thank you for really going out of your way to help him and showing such compassion and integrity. Bravo!

DesertDweller, you have good points in the karma bank now. Thanks for taking such good care of the little guy and your efforts to find his home.

    Thank you desertdweller!

As goodgraces indicated, there are some that would turn an eye to this sweet guy.

If each of us stepped up and helped stray animals (when they find us), there would be far less strays and most likely, far more spayed/neutered animals.

And a big thank you to Kitty Harbor for accepting him into their adoption center.

Desertdweller; yes I agree with you and the last 5 posts above, you are awesome for your huge heart! I only had concern since so many days had gone by and I assumed that you’d already registered with SAC lost pet hotline or similar, and then the mentioning of posters. Posters are fine.. I would just leave out one or two very ‘identifying’ characteristics so that a true owner would claim and not an animal abuser or worse(don’t even want to mention here what some claim free animals for-Craigslist animal section should be GONE!!) sorry that your earlier life had to see the misery at other shelters. SAC is pretty much no-kill.. thanks to the fostering program. Little orange kitty has YOU to thank for whatever great home he ends up in. :) =^-^=
