SueParticipantI’m in the market for a new dentist, and saw the thread about Dr. Kae earlier, but didn’t want to hijack that one to ask about a different dentist. Dr. Chellis (Smile Secrets) is very close to to where I live, but the only review I’ve seen elsewhere online is not a good one. Does anyone have any experience with her, good or bad?
And to reiterate a question I asked about Dr. Kae, if you have seen Dr. Chellis, I’m curious if she is aggressive with proactive work. Most of the dentists I’ve been to in the Seattle area are always trying to talk me into crowns because of a “really big” filling that MIGHT crack and MIGHT cause problems, and I feel like I’m always being badgered into spending tons of $ because I MIGHT have an issue later. I don’t mind being informed and given options, but I’m not a fan of hard-sells and fear mongering.

jMemberHave seen her multiple times. I think she is very nice and seems very knowledgeable. However her work is expensive. My insurance is top of the line and I always end up paying big time out of pocket expenses. I have also felt pressured to buy preventative care products that she sells in office. This summer there was a letter that went out about insurance policy changes and I’ve never went back though her office sent out another letter that went back on the changes.

SonomaParticipantDr. Chellis and her hygienists are excellent. She also did not push me to have proactive treatments. As for costs, I think she might be a little more expensive. Your best bet is to call three or four dentists to get an idea of the cost for a cleaning, etc.

krixusParticipantDr. Chellis was my dentist for close to 20 years and I left her for Dr. Kae about four years ago. Not once have I regretted my decision. Dr. Chellis was a nice person and very friendly, but her work was expensive and she put on a lot of pressure for proactive work. For example, at my last appointment with her, even though I didn’t have any cavities at the time, she tried to get me to agree to a DNA test (costing several hundred dollars, not covered by insurance) because she claimed that I was “more susceptible” to cavities due to the chemistry of my saliva. I’ve had maybe 2 cavities in 30 years, which to me, isn’t a higher number than the average person my age. She convinced me to buy some special $20 preventative mouthwash while at her office, which smelled and tasted like bleach. It was disgusting. When I mentioned this treatment to Dr. Kae one time, he was aghast. He said I shouldn’t have been a candidate for it in the first place. So, even though Dr. Chellis is nice, I’m not going to see a dentist that makes up problems just to try to convince me to spend more money whenever I’m at her office.

GoGoParticipantI too used to be a patient of Dr Chellis and thought they were all very nice but I usually left the office crying because they felt they had to tell me (every time) that I was going to need thousands of dollars in dental work. I now see Dr. Naden and could not be happier!

SueParticipantThanks all for the input on this! Definitely sounds like Dr. Kae is the way to go.
