dirkbMemberJust curious, have you written Joe McDermott with a stance on an issue or about a concern that you would like to see addressed?
I have written him, through the state website a number of times and have never received a response.
Just interested to find out if he repsonds to the emails that get sent his way? I have heard back from Eileen Cody, just not Joe.

JulieMemberI have always heard back from him. Sometimes I’ve received an email, but I’ve also even had phone calls from him, personally–not just his staff. I’ve always been extremely impressed with his responsiveness, the thoughtfulness of his replies, and his follow-up questions.
Keep in mind this is a very busy time, and all the legislators are likely hearing from many, many constituents on a huge variety of issues–all while the legislative landscape is changing by the minute. It might take some time for any of them to get back to you, but that doesn’t mean you’re being ignored. They might not end up doing what you want, (after all, they’re also hearing from people with opinions opposed to yours!) but I’m confident your message is heard.

Moose JawMemberSame experience.
I’ve never received a response from McDermott’s office. At the least he could have a junior staffer or intern replying by template. But it’s his voting record that’s most concerning (SB 5127).
Eileen Cody and Sharon Nelon are very responsive.

charlabobParticipantI’ve always gotten a response — 90 percent of the time they appear to be personalized; ie, they respond to something I’ve said, rather than “occupant.” Same is true of all our state, local, and national representatives — even da’ mayor. :-)
Suggestion: tell them all when they do something “right” (that you approve of.) I gather that’s somewhat rare.

KenParticipantI talked to Joe’s staff yesterday. I just called the office number and they answered.
His staff reads all the emails though. Even those with malfunctioning spellcheckers and conspiracy theories. :)
What objection could you have to 5127? Not enough east siders or treaty rights opponents?

Let’s have some substance here boys and girls. So far Joe is representing me just fine.
If you feel the need to talk to him face to face, you can always corner him at any 34th district meeting when the Senate is not in session. I have disagreed with him a few times but he does not back down when he feels he is right.

SB 5127 was an anti-conservation bill that would have eliminated the use of best-available science in protecting our natural resources. It also would have effectively “neutered” the WDFW. If that’s how McDermott votes as a steward our environment then he’s lost my support.

HMC RichParticipantWhat!!! An anti-conservative bill???? Oh … er ….sorry, I read the word wrong. Wouldn’t that have made some people around here smile!
I think Joe is representing most of the West Seattle constituents fairly well. I disagree with many of his votes which probably means he is voting the way quite a few of you want.
Who is/was lobbying him to vote yes? Is it tribal lobbyist’s, commercial fisheries or the hunters and fisherman. I wonder if your answer lies there.
I do not think this commission which was the result of referendum 45 from 1995 should be changed. It passed in every county in this state. This seems like a power grab by politicians on a group of people who work for no pay and have done a better job than most commissions.
As far as responses go, all I know is that Mrs. Murray sends responses. Cantwell doesn’t. Then again, maybe my salutation shouldn’t be ….you stupid bleeping bleepity bleep! Real Networks SUX! I wonder if that has any bearing on not getting a response?
I really don’t do that but I bet some people do.
