PeachesParticipantOk, I thought I was hearing things, but I’m not. There is something chewing/scratching inside my wall!! Small scratchy sounds–bug-like, not rodent-like. I’m pretty sure it is a bearing wall, interior but reaching to the outside wall on its short end. I’m thinking carpenter ants or some hiving, stinging creatures? Do we get termites here? Anyone ever experienced this and what did you to about it? Any and all advice welcome!!

GenHillOneParticipantThere are two threads on here re: bees/wasps…I’d check them out…sorry to say that’s exactly what the nest sounded like in our attic several years ago. I had never heard that sound until then. Creepy.

flipjackParticipantCould be yellow jackets..I had to exterminate a whole nest in my wall and I had the same symptoms as you..they were eating drywall. i HATE yellow jackets now.

shed22Participantmost likely yellow jackets. i had the same thing happen to me. heard “scratching” noises above my bed. i hired an exterminator and they said it was rats. they set traps. charged me about a thousand dollars for on-going rat maintenance. turned out it was a hive of wasps (yellow jackets) in the eaves. if you put your head real close to the area where the sounds emit during the late evening hours, you will hear the strange rythm of their hive. it’s an odd and beautiful sound. then kill them. they’re a nuisance.

jMemberI’m going to have to agree with the yellow jackets. We had a HUGE nest in our house and they did chew through the wall. Came home after being gone for the weekend and we had hundreds flying around in the house. There are so many variations of bees/wasps and these ones weren’t your average yellow jackets. I will never forget them.
