loho2000MemberDid anyone go over there yet? I drove by twice and didn’t smell any tasty bbq so was wondering if this place is good.

sunshineParticipantI ate there tonight and loved the food so much I took an order home, too. Service was timely and friendly – and then other servers kept checking in to see if I’d been helped, was happy, wanted anything else, etc…
The spicy sauce was not too spicy but had a slow heat. The potato yellow potato salad exceeded all expectations. All the food I had was, for lack of a better term, served “wet”. Meaning the sauce or dressing was plentiful and moist. I love, love love that.
There’s definitely a chaotic feel – a lack of polish. It felt more like a Lunch Truck than a full service restaurant. Tables were shared by strangers, fingers were licked, beers gulped, mouths wiped on shirtsleeves….

LisaParticipantHubby & I ate there on their 2nd night, Saturday. First, fun atmostphere – many folks drinking, eating and watching the Seahawk Game. Nice evening so lots of folks in the brick courtyard outdoors – which is their main dining/eating area. (Not sure what they’ll do in cold/wet weather)
We both really enjoyed our meals. For $7.50 you get (I’ll try to remember all the choices) a choice of meat (pulled pork, spare ribs, chicken), sauce – there were 3 choices, sides: coleslaw, blue cheese wedge, pea salad, or beans, and bread – either jalapeno corn bread or buttermilk biscuit. I may have missed a couple things, but that is basically it.
Hubby had the pulled pork and I had the spare ribs – both very good choices! It was a lot of tasty food and a good value. We’ll definitely go back for more.

dhgParticipantWent in, eventually sat down, then left. It was chaotic. One guy was cleaning tables and serving plates; he was the most visible of staff, but he avoided eye contact. I flagged a waitress (she didn’t want to be stopped) and asked whether there was a sign-in sheet and she told us there was not, just hang until a table becomes available. So when we got table, that’s when I noticed the flatware was stored in a cup, handles deep inside. You are expected to pick through the flatware. That is one health hazard I do not think is necessary. There were plenty of children nearby and I kept imagining their little fingers all over the flatware trying to extricate a fork. So, after waiting for about 10 minutes without so much as a friendly acknowledgement from anyone, we left.

transplantellaParticipantdhg, I recommend that you never never travel outside of America. The things that happen to flatware in other places……would no doubt send you to the hospital emergency room.

dhgParticipanttransplantella: I’ve had some great times in France and Spain, thank you very much, and I’ve eaten in a number of places I would not go near if they were transplanted near home. It is considered “an adventure” while a broad and risks are taken. Here, I do not like risks so much. Call me crazy, I like clean flatware.

maplesyrupParticipantSeems like you have to go into it with the right expectations. And I’m sure they’ll work out the kinks soon enough.
Besides, it’s BBQ. If you’re looking for a fancy BBQ joint, you’re barking up the wrong tree.

mlfryeMemberWe went there last night. They have some kinks, as expected for the first week of opening or so, but it has potential. The food was good. Spicy isn’t spicy, but it is tasty. The music is great too. The waitresses need to be able to tell patrons what beers they have! But hey – nice to have a good place in north Ad.

LisaParticipantMaplesyrup I agree. We went on night #2 expecting there to be kinks to be worked out. We packed our patience, and were pleasantly surprised it all worked out; service, food, etc.
When you try a restaurant that is ‘brand new’, pack your patience, or wait a month or two.

vmdMemberWe went this afternoon for a late lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great. The brisket was well done, the sauce was tasty and the sides were delicious. The spicy sauce didn’t have a strong bite, but it was good. I can see how it could get crowded, but if that’s the case, it seems like to-go would be the answer.

MargLMemberJust got lunch. Their new paper menus say they’re now open 11AM to 2AM (wow!) daily.
To-go orders are an extra $1 per order – not sure why. You’d think to-go would be a convenience to the restaurant ’cause then they have more seating for people who want to stay.
As for the food – it was tasty enough but unless I really have a taste for it -and- I’m in the area, and I have time for a sit down meal we’ll probably skip it.
To-go sandwiches get soggy and if you don’t want the coleslaw -on- the sandwich they might charge you for a side of slaw instead.
Gotta say the service was very attentive. They asked me several times if I’d like anything to drink while I was waiting, which I didn’t, but they poured me a cup of water anyway. I must have looked thirsty. Looking around folks were getting seated and ordering quickly and the wait time wasn’t too long. Oh, and I liked the music selection, too! :-)

TKDguyParticipantMy wife and I just tried it tonight and enjoyed it. We lived in Austin, Texas for a couple of years and I can honestly say the Brickyard’s BBQ was far better than any of the food we had in Austin. They were out of beef brisket so we had the pork and chicken. They were both good, as were the sides. The spicy sauce is not spicy, but it is tasty. My only complaint was they didn’t have root beer (how can you have BBQ without root beer?).
We did wonder 2 things:
1. What they heck are they going to do during the winter? We were freezing our butts off this evening and it wasn’t even that cold out.
2. Why do they have waitresses? Most of the comparable BBQ places in Austin were set up so you just order at the counter and then sit down and eat. The waitresses seemed confused about everything and they weren’t really necessary. On top of that you have to leave a tip which makes the whole thing a little pricier. I guess getting the food to go would be the way to go for this place.
Anyway, the food was good and it seemed like a good place to stop in for drinks, yummy BBQ, and football, but not so great for a sit-down meal.

MargLMemberSee – that’s the odd thing.
They charge extra for to-go so you’re paying a tip whether you stay or go and the downside of to-go is your food gets soggy/cold.

hollyplaceParticipantWhen I worked at a restaurant at Alki, people would always order food to go and a server would have to stop waiting tables to ring in an order, then pack the order out of the window, napkins, sauce and anything else they needed. I know people don’t realize how that can throw you off when you have tables, but it makes it a bit more hectic if the restaurant is busy. The real problem ends up being that the sales are rang in under the employee number. The percentage that you tip out to the dishwasher, bartender, and busser is taken out of your tips based on your total amount of sales. So if the customer doesn’t tip, then it is essentially costing the server money to pay the tip to the back of the house. Some people tip, but LOTS of people here in WS don’t tip on to-go food, they will hand a pizza guy a $5 bill but not on an order they had to walk in to get. Unfortunatly it is often the same people that get food to go every couple of weeks. The wait staff would see someone-that didn’t tip on to-go orders come in the door and would try to hand them off to a new server. Remember, tip your server even on to-go orders and you won’t have to ask if they put extra sauce – they will remember and want to make you happy so you come back.

RopeMemberThe brisket was dry and served at a temperature that was somewhat cooler than lukewarm. The potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked and crunchier than a Vlasic pickle. It was like being served church potluck leftovers. What a disappointment!
However,based on what I have read here I’ll give the place another try.
