TKDguyParticipantI’ve been in West Seattle for 4 years now and up to this point I’ve mainly just been riding my bike around West Seattle. This summer I’ve been having a blast riding my bike from West Seattle across the waterfront all the way up around Magnolia and back. I love that route, but I’m wondering if anyone has some good suggestions for other fun trips that start out in West Seattle. I haven’t tried the Duwamish River trail yet, but I’ve heard it isn’t all that exciting.

TanDLParticipantThe Duwamish River trail is fine. You can ride from W. Seattle down W. Marginal through S. Park to Ft Dent in Tukwila. We used to be able to ride all the way to Auburn through the river trail, but the flood control these past few years has the trail sand bagged, although I hear they are coming down before too long.
Once past Ft Dent the trail splits into the River trail and the Interurban Trail. The Interurban Trail is straight and long, but the River Trail should be back up and running sometime this year.

datamuseParticipantExciting, not really, but very pleasant, and you can use it to get to Southcenter without having to drive.

SmytheMemberWhen you get up to magnolia you can cross the locks into ballard and get on the Burke gilman. It’s an easy trip to golden gardens to the west or eastbound to Fremont and lake union. It’s a pretty nice ride around the lake, or park at either northwest outdoor center (westlake) or agua verde (south end of the u district on ne boat st.) for some kayaking. That will also put you near lake washington boulevard, which is a nice ride down to Seward park.

TKDguyParticipantThanks Smythe, that’s exactly what I was looking for. I am excited about exploring Burke-Gilman for the first time. Now I just need the sun to come back out!

timh2oMemberMercer Island is fun or go across to or the Eastside. I take Spokane then north on Airport Way then take 8th Ave a few blocks then East on Dearborn cross Rainier Ave S, right on Hiawatha Place watch for the trail signs then thru the tunnel then the bridge across I-90 to Mercer Island then loop it. check the King County bike map. It’s no farther then what your doing now. I agree about going South to Kent or Tukwila, I rode it this morning just to check out South Park and get coffee. I like industrial areas on the weekends, there’s no traffic to worry about and cool stuff to look at along the river.

TKDguyParticipantThanks TimH2O,
I was curious how to get to Mercer Island from WS. I am psyched to try it out!
